Dear Cristina.

I know it's been a while since I last sent you some news about all of us, but it is not easy at times to find the time, the words or right moments to sit down and start taking out all we have inside. You probably have mixed feelings about my letter but I had to send it to you.

Let me start saying that the country is quite a nice combination of different cultures and I must admit I feel at home here. Some aspects are different: changing weather, colder people and few big cities, but you can easily get used to living here if you are willing to do certain things, as you can imagine.

I knew you also had moved. They told me you are now in France. It's curious, I was the expert in French Literature and the one wanting to go there and now I'm in Italy and you are in Paris. Life can be surprising some times. When we were together in Madrid I was dreaming of the Seine river. Do you remember me teaching French to you? Sometimes I miss the time we spent together in Madrid. I remember me trying to convince you to go to France together. At that time I thought you were not very interested in doing that. Anyway, we will never know how it would have been like. I met Elisabetta at that time and I had to make a decision. I still think that it was the most important one I have taken in my life.

I had very confused feelings, as you can remember, we spent really nice and wonderful moments together, I couldn't wait till the moment you came to class, and finally we became really close friends, we started to go together for a coffee with the only excuse that I wanted you to get a perfect pronunciation, I wanted you to be the best one.
But one day we forgot about lessons, just started to speak about our lives and we changed our coffees for long walks in the Retiro Park. it seemed something was going to happen with us...

But you told me that Jimmy was a wonderful guy. Then you visited him and I felt like a hole in my heart.
I hope you had a good time in New York while I was thinking about you. I didn´t tell you anything because I wasn´t able to speak about us. I thought that you realized what we felt for each other when we fell down together in the garden at Retiro´s. But you decided to fly to New York and we never got in touch again. I can only remember that postcard you sent me from the top of The Empire state building ...

At that time we were both very young and we had many dreams, we also had many experiences to live and many places to visit. Travelling has always been one of my great passions. It has taken me away from Madrid. Because of it I discovered awesome places like St. Petersburg, which is one of my favorite cities because it is really big and completely different from other European places I know. Something that not many people know is that you can cross the river on a boat. People wear different clothes but what really shocks you is the big number of policemen on the streets, with their uniforms on and holding rifles. From time to time they get into the bus and they stand next to you, checking everything is fine.

As I was saying, time goes by quickly and we start to see things differently. What I mean is that it would be nice to meet you again.

I would like to meet you again in our special place. Do yo remember? It is Rome. I think that we expent a good time there when we were only teenagers. As far as I am concerned, we have to remember a lot of beautiful things so the best place for that is Rome. You have alredy known too many thing about me with this letter but I haven´t known about your feeling since you travelled to New York. I would like to meet with you as soon as possible because I have to tell you a relevant thing and I ´d rather tell you face to face.

Dear Mr. Robertson,

This letter is an answer to the ones you have been sending our patient Cristina McBride for the last seven months. First of all I must inform you that Cristina is no longer with us since she passed away two months ago. Sad as it may seem it was the best for her because of the long illness that kept her in our institution for five years. She was hospitalized after a crisis at work and little by little we discovered essential events in her life, such as the relationship with you in her university years. As for your letters, she had every intention of answering back, she told me in one of our many conversations. Then, she had a stroke and became speechless. Some days before this happened she had told me there was a diary she was willing to send you but unfortunately could not do so.

Therefore, I would like to invite you to come and collect this book any time you are near Lyon. I am sure this will help you understand our dear Cristina and it will also help understand many other things

I was really excited when I received your letter last weekend.

I did not remeber the last time we met, perhaps in 1995, you were working in Marbella and I spent my holidays there. Do you remember?

The truth is that it was totally unexpected! But we had a good time those days.

I had nice memories of that unbelievable journey we did twenty years ago around Italy, when we were together. Still is the best travel I have ever done in my life when we visited every corner of main italian cities.

I did not forget the most delicious capuccino that I have tried in Piazza Navona or the beautiful views of Rome from the top of San Pietro Square, or those gondola rides through the canals of Venice passing under Rialto Brigde.

I hope you are fine, that you have found love as me and I would like to meet you soon in order to have a coffee and talk about our lives.
