Our old neighbour sometimes calls my wife "love". I was offended hearing that first, but later on I noticed that is a cultural issue. We have got a very close relationship with our neighbour.

Penne says: Some older Australians call younger people 'love' and that's OK. It all depends on the context. It's usually term used for people who know each other well. Girls often call each other 'babe' but it has a different meaning if a boy calls a girl babe!

Personal space is related to your culture and country. When I was in Japan the personal space issue was a problem because in Australia I like more space around me. If you are talking to someone and they step backwards, you are in their space... respect that and don't take a step closer because they will just move back again. Try it with your teacher, if you stand too close - he/she will take a step back to make more space :)
