1950's Research Project

  • The drive-in movie was created in New Jersey in 1933, but it only became very popular in the 1950’s. (Cunningham)
  •  It was easy for families and friends to get a good discount on movies because they charged it per car, so friends would squish into a really tiny car and get a good discount. (Cunningham)
  •  Some families liked a very open space to watch a movie with a playground for their kids so they can watch their own movie. (Cunningham)
  •  Drive-in movies started to get a lot less popular when regular indoor movie theaters got bigger in size. (Cunningham)
  • Cars were very popular in the 1950’s, and so were movies, so someone decided to put movies and cars together to create one of the most famous events in the 1950’s. (Cunningham)
  • With the new technology, the sound of the movie went straight into the car radio so you could hear it clearly. (Cunningham)
  • It was mostly famous and popular in the 1950’s because people were tired of being squished in an indoor theater and they can watch it from their own car, and have it be open, and it was really cool technology back then.

  • Sock hops were informal dances in the school gym 
  • everyone would take off their shoes and do strange new dance moves 
  • they didn’t want to scratch the gym floors and that is why they didn’t have shoes on
  • girls wore huge dresses, when they spin the bottom of the dress looks like a huge circle 
  • most of the time they listened to Rock N’ Roll
    • Teenagers doing a Sock Hop of the gym floor(Cunningham)
