They do this by having a black background so that the iPhone stands out. The voice over is also high quality and the depth in the persons voice gives the advert depth and makes it stand out. The person doing the voice over also emphasises certain words and does this on purpose so that it sticks in the viewers head.

construction of content:

The advert begins by comparing the similarities of this model to older models. This could be to ensure the audience that the phone won't be too difficult to adapt to and that its just as easy to use as older versions.
It then starts explaining how they've changed the look of the IPhone by bringing in new colours. similar to the iPhone 5c however has the same look as the iPhone 6/7/8.
For the rest of the advert it talks about its new camera qualities and how this is transforming the iPhone.

when watching the advert it is easy to follow as the narrative is simple and structured. the narrative follows the visuals which are also as easy to watch.

Selection of content:
Words- The words that are in this music video is very similar to the original all stars song but it makes a big meme of the song. there is text in the video to worn people that because of what is displayed in the video people that have photosensitive epilepsy, seizures or can get triggered that you should not watch it.
Images- The imagery in this music video is for the most part a man wearing a shriek t-shirt and playing different instruments. However, after a little while the imagery gets distorted as the song deteriorates in to more of a meme version of itself.
Sounds- The music at first sound like a proper cover song then after a while the sound starts to deteriorate until it is a broken version of the song.
Sequences-
Colours- In the start of the music video the only colour is the background which is grey, the t-shirt that is a yellow green and the colour of the instruments which is black and white. When it starts to deteriorate there are many colours like red, green, yellow and blue possibly more this is done to make very thing look inverted.
Fronts-

Construction of Content:
Narrative- The narrative of this song that the lyrics are saying that the person is not the best but that does not mean that they need to give up but that they need to keep going. the song is also saying that life can get hard but that means that you have to work harder to overcome it and it can be fun. Then it starts happening, the song deteriorates and the person singing puts on a fake smile and pretends that everything is alright. and this keeps happening until they are fully broken and everything goes out of control. and the narrative is single strand as there is only one person so one character.
Layouts-
Captions- There are captions in this video, they appear when putting warnings on the video, giving information, showing certain lyrics and at the end of the video.
Anchorage (how secure is the content?)-

Codes and Conventions:
Language, visual, audio symbolic, technical (camera techniques), modes of address (how does the product speak to audience)

It's a neutral location.

Eerie swing music starts up when the Highway Man begins to sing, before that there was no background music only dialogue.

The music is a strange choice as it wouldn't appeal to the target audience. However it fits with the whole soundtrack of the show.

The narrative is confusing; strange things happen and the dialogue is bizarre to convey the confusion and disorientation of the main characters who are lost in a strange place.

Simple animation style , which changes for the Highway Man's song, references the style of animation from the 30s/40s.

The show incorporates old fashioned animation styles and language with history and fairytales from America in the 1700s - 1900s.

Very simple camera angles. Until the dance where it is quite low making the Highway Man loom over the viewer, making him big and intimidating.

Imagery and language is a bit dark for children. Despite this the language is simple and relatively easy to follow.

Very non-sequitur sequence, has no relevance to the narrative or the story of the show.

The show has quite good anchorage, as it has a timeless feel to it and the historical references are unlikely to become obsolete. The absurd, strange comedy used is part of the trend started by the children's show Adventure Time. This style of children's show could fall out of fashion which means the show is not completely secure.

This is because they are trying to create a tense atmosphere and a feeling of uncertainty to whether or not she shoots the robbers. Once the clip is empty, all your left with is silence until you hear the dropping of the bullet cartridges, which metaphorical in it's self references
the saying "You could hear a pin drop". It's then revealed that the robbers weren't shot, they stand up, silence still, until one of them speaks out, cutting the tension that was built up by knocking the girl with the gun out.

Images and Visuals:

Dark, dingy room. Not many lights on, furniture spread about with blankets and such strewn out on them, walls with posters and art. The muzzle flash from the gun being shot turns the darkness into a hectic brightness. Smashed up bottles and holes in the walls follow. The effect these visuals have on the audience is gripping, it draws them in with the air of mystery as to what happens, the camera angles are used very cleverly to show just enough but not too much. As an audience we're unsure as to what's about to happen, we don't see the girl on the couch with the gun and after the shooting we are left questioning whether or not she managed to hurt them till they are dead them, this is drawn out by silence and good camera work.

Construction of Content

Narrative:

This scene takes place in a film that isn't in a chronological order, this scene happens at a different time to the scene following or that just whence. The logo and slogan are clearly shown centre screen at the end.

Caption
The M&S slogan and logo at the end. The Christmas berry red stands out from the almost black and white background of the bleak artic.

Anchorage:
(How secure is content)
It's a classic M&S advert of which they produce simular ones each year. It's only meant to last for the Christmas season (people won't usually watch it other times of the year or next Christmas as there will be a new ad). However, it is classic and is made to become part of M&S' archive/history of Christmas adverts.

Codes of Conduct

Language
Told through the voice of a child, so simple language. With jokes for the adults (especially for women in regards to how Mrs Claus pretends to Santa that she hasn't done anything when she's actually gone to grant the narrator's wish. Also in the way she talks to Santa: she is made to seem the typical wife reminding her husband of things and making him a packed lunch, yet she also proves to be her own person. She is relatable to the modern woman and a femanist).

Visuals
Christmas, memories, Winter and a nice house with a middle class setting create a happy, desirable story world that people buy into. The viewer is lead to believe that if they buy presents or food from M&S at Christmas, their Christmas can be just like the family's in the advert.

Audio
'Orchestra' type music with a Christmas feel that builds with the story. The music and sound effects add to the Christmas feel of the advert.

Technical (Complex edit/camera movements etc (Cinematography).
Drone/helicopter shots (including of helicopter). Reindeers (are they real? In which case they had to be sourced). Helicopter is used (on camera). Shots of the North Pole and of flying above ships all lined up. Snow.

How does the product speak to the audience
Through the eyes and voice of a child, but to adults and children alike: children will relate to the children in it and to the excitement of Christmas and adults will relate to Mr and Mrs Claus and the parents of the children. Also, directly at the end when Mrs Claus looks directly at the camera.

Second Media Project:
Music Video by The Killers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qok9Ialei4c

Selection of Content
Words
Singing (also see 'fonts' below).

Images
Animation and live action mixed seamlessly together.

Sounds
To accompany animations/live action: crickets, motorbike, TV, New Year's (so people counting down, cheers etc).

Colours
Complimentary, muted tones.

Fonts
Title of music video at start; title of place in animated section; handwritten letter.

Construction of Content
Narrative
Non-linere.

Layout
N/A

Caption
N/A

Anchorage
(How secure is content)
It's linked with another of The Killers' songs, 'Mr Brightside' which is a classic, so as long as people remember Mr Brightside and as long as people continue to listen to and watch The Killers, this music video will be remembered.

Code of Conduct
Language
Told through song. Descriptive both literally and metaphorically: 'you were standing with your girlfriends in the street' = literal; 'The dust cloud has settled, and my eyes are clear' = metephorical.
Easy to understand - no complicated words.

Visuals
The visuals illustrate the story, both past and present and succesfully link the non-linere narrative seemlessly together. They also link back to visuals in the music video for 'Mr Brightside' - e.g. the scene where Brandon (lead singer) is playing in the show, is the same place 'Mr Brightside' is set in. At one point it even cuts back to a clip of them together then to remind the viwer of what happened when they first met. The colours have a washed out, wistful, reminiscent feel to them. An animated clock with it's hands spinning round and round is a literal representation of time passing, helping to link the two narrative strands.

Audio
The song and sound effects.

Technical (Complex edit/camera movements etc (Cinematography).
The fact that it is part animation means it took meticulous planning and a lot of work to create and to blend it with the live action. The story line can be appreciated on it's own but takes on a deeper meaning if the viewer has previously watched 'Mr Brightside' as the two are linked and are meant to be watched one after the other (although they came out several years apart).

How does the product speak to the audience?
Through the eyes of the man (young and old); through present day and flashbacks. The animation is enticing as no other The Killers video makes use of this medium (speaking to fans here). The colours are appealing to anyone who has an eye for colour (they're complimentary (see night time scene in particular) and not too bright).

Media Product:

In This Moment - “Wh*re”

This 5 minute music video has a sexual/lust suggestive tone, through the lyrics and the video. With a minute introduction of a male (Chris Motionless from Motionless In White) and setting the scene the video shows many aspects of what Maria Brink (lead singer) tries to put across.

Opening Sequence:

The music played is not the titled song, but an old timely eerie sound which feels like it should be from an old detective film, to push that idea the whole scene is filmed in black and white using a old camera as there are ‘marks’ on the camera’s footage reel.
It sets the location of being New York, by seeing a skyscraper; but then drops the audience down on the dark streets with a neon sign flashing “GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS”.
Before the music starts a small amount of text pops on screen (like silent films would have speech boards, linking back to it being an ‘old film’)with the words:

“In your Hate - I have found god

In your Sin - I have found Love

In your Faith - I have found Forgiveness”

This gives a deeper meaning to the music video as the words are almost contradictory. If read with the lyrics of the song in mind, it could show a power abusive relationship.

The narrative of this is simple, it tells a story of a man going into a building to be amused. The following montage of masked females, dark rooms and alcohol mixed with another substance have been made to prepare the audience but also put an edge and a feeling of uncertainty; and this is what gains the viewers attention to not look away.

There is nothing special about this, the camera shots are simple, the hardest being to keep the camera reflection out of a mirror. But it does address the audience which it is aimed out, and older audience or someone who isn’t squeamish to the topic of sex and money. A symbolic image is when the man looks powerful and is being served by woman until the music starts and it seems the roles change.

(Not finished)

The song as well because I think that is the anchorage for every music video.

Codes and Conventions:

Technical- camera close-ups, pull-forwards and out on a dolly. Visual effects, hand drawn.

Modes of Address- the video in a strange way can be relatable when you’re on your own cooking food and singing and dancing.

Visuals and Symbolism- the visuals symbolise sex between a couple, which explains the intimate close-ups and the eggs represent the ‘right one’, we see this when one of the eggs gets burnt. The song is about “a boy who saw everything from a beauty point of view” which will explain the glowly colourful visuals.
