Form and function are few of the key aspects and elements of architecture. Without them, there wouldn't be an architecture. Of course form is the structural, aesthetics, and design of the architecture. Function is what helps or tells us about specific designs and structures in the architecture. Function helps put purpose or use for specific areas or designs in the architecture. Together, form and function help us show why some areas of architectures are built in a specific manner.

So for my chosen architecture, I chose the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. The Alhambra Palace was actually a fort built by the Nasrid Dynasty (1232-1492) the last Muslims to rule Spain. Having seen the place myself, I can say that this palace had a variety of different structures and designs in the palace. First example is the Muqarnas in one of the domes in the palace. The Muqarnas was a type of corbel to support the height and was similar to the use of pendentives. One thing to tour guide told me when I visited this place is that water is always found within the palace. Indeed, water streams were found all around the palace, and the function of these was to get water inside the palace. The water actually comes from a nearby dam, and was used to get water supply in the palace. Water was also a very important aspect for the Muslims, which is another reason the palace is full of streams and drainages. The Palace of the Lions were elegant architecture made by the Muslims, and was influenced by the Moors. The Moors implemented this style of architecture in their houses of worship, and mosques. The Palace Courtyard of Charles V is another structural example which was based on the Renaissance design. It was the geometry of the circular courtyard within the rectangular building which made it very renaissance like.
