Mao Zedong, The chinese leader (1949-1976) had a challenge to grow the population. With women giving birth to on average 4-5 kinds the population rose by 3%. in 1958 Mao launched a program called the great Leap Forward, a plan to help china become a modern industry country. After Mao passed away in 1979 the government changed the birth policy to 1 child per family. Boys are the preferred sex in China. Modern Medicines had made it possible to find out the gender of the baby and some people were deciding to abort the baby and try again for a boy. This practice was highly illegal but that didn't stop it from happening.
