They believed that China was located in the center of the earth, because they were geographically isolated. To this day some still call China "Zhing Gou" which mean "The Middle Country".

After Mao passed away in 1979 the government changed the birth policy to 1 child per family. Boys are the preferred sex in China. Modern Medicines had made it possible to find out the gender of the baby and some people were deciding to abort the baby and try again for a boy.
