Describe the pros and cons of the following ways we control erosion on beaches: Jetties / groins / Sea Walls / Beach Renourishment / Dune Restoration

- Jetties help because it prevents sand from getting into the river or intercostal. Jetties also can cause erosion because of the lack of sand on the other side.
- Groins are made to trap sand that moves down the the beach from a longshore drift. It causes erosion because when water goes over the groin it swoops back down and scrapes sand off the bottom
- Sea walls serve as protection for beach side property. Waves crashing on the wall and bounce back which erodes the sand underneath the wall. In order to support the wall you have to add rocks.
- Beach Renourishment is the process of taking sand and dumping it or pumping it onto a beach that is eroded. Usually Beach Renourishment sand erodes
- Dune Restoration - This means dune rehabilitation. After dunes are damaged by hurricanes or storm surges the dunes need to restored. A downside to this is the sand used to restore the dunes can be from the bottom of the ocean, where the sand's grains are larger, causing vegetation like Sea Oats to not grow in the sand.
