Deep Fear

I think that when we're children, we may be less fearful or think less carefully about the consequences of our actions. According to studies, this is because our brains aren't fully developed. I remember that during my childhood, my friends and I used to compete by performing dangerous actions; by showing that "courage" we were better or cooler.

The precipice

I remember we went on a field trip once. I was 17 years old.

We were very excited; the place was a large natural park where you could take long or short walks, meet animals, and observe many plants and flowers. There was also a river in the park with natural pools where you could swim and relax.

When we got to the river, we immediately jumped in. The water was cool but not too cold, and it felt great after walking in the sun and the summer heat.

After a while, we noticed a kind of cliff above one of the natural pools. My friends said: It would be really fun to jump off the cliff and into the water.

I kept thinking and got scared because I can't swim, and I only stayed in areas where my feet touched the ground.

They all got out of the water to climb the cliff and jump. I stayed in the water, but one of them said: Come on! Nothing bad will happen, it'll be fun.

I didn't want to be the only one who didn't jump and look like a coward.

The cliff was about 4 meters high and at that moment I discovered that I was also afraid of heights.

Almost Drowned Lady

When it was time to jump into the water, my body was shaking, and I didn't know if my feet would touch the ground when I landed, allowing me to get out. I jumped in, and to my horror, I fell so deep I couldn't even float. I panicked, and I could only hold up my hands.

My friends realized I couldn't get out, so they jumped in to support me and pull me out. When I got out, I was so scared and had swallowed so much water that I couldn't speak or breathe properly.

Since then, I've been terrified of deep water. When I go to the beach, I sit on the shore. I don't go into deep pools, and I don't like heights because they make me vomit and dizzy.
