For example, The Troubles was a major domestic ethno-nationalist conflict in Ireland that lasted for many years between two political groups, loyalists and nationalists. Loyalists believed that Northern Ireland should remain with the United Kingdom while nationalists believed that Northern Ireland should leave the United Kingdom and join a United Ireland. These to beliefs created conflict between the two factions and guerrilla warfare occurred for many years.
