-He remembers he killed his baby and his wife committed suicide. 
-Goes to Yad Vashen to find information for Thomas. Finds some peace there. 
-Finds a report about Opa Hans and learns Opa Hans was present for a massacre. We do not know if he participated. 
-Takes sleeping pills because his peace has been shattered; everyone is coming to him for answers. Lots of pressure. They want help and advice from him since he is the oldest and wisest. Mutti and Thomas rely on him for finding out about Opa Hans. Lidia needs him for emotional support.
-"Life goes on": This experience helped him heal and move forward.
