1.) Do your parents want you to follow in their footsteps in terms of career? How do you feel about parents putting pressure on their children to do this?

My parents do not want me following in their footsteps in terms of career. My parents want me to accomplish as much as I can throughout my life and get a job that I am passionate about. Parents who pressure their kids to follow in their footsteps career-wise should not pressure their kids with careers. The kids should be able to decide what they think is best for them and if it is not a career choice that fits them they will learn from their mistakes and hopefully find the job that they are passionate about and best suits them. Overall, parents should  not pressure their kids into what career they should do.

2.) Who are your role models / heroes and how do they influence you?

My role models are my grandparents because they are so strong and successful. My grandparents want me to do whatever career I strive to do. My grandparents motivate me in my day to day life to accomplish more than I could imagine. The influence me in a good way and they motivate me to strive and try harder in my day to day life whether it is at home or at school. My socks were always black with coal dirt when I took my shoes off at night” (Hickman 2). Since Homer is from Coalwood, a community coal town, he gets dirty all of the time from the coal mines. This passage stood out to me because it shows how the enviroment that he lives in influences his appearance and possibly his personality. Not only does the community influence Homer’s appearance, but the people around him also influence him and his personality, “Mom started calling me “Sunny” right away because, she said, I was a happy child. So did everyone else, although my first grade teacher changed the spelling to the more masculine “Sonny” (Hickman 15). The fact that not only his mother and his friends realized how his personality was so joyful and brought people around him happiness. Personalities and people can be influenced by the people they associate themselves with and the area they grow up in throughout their life.
