The mountains offered protection to the North, and separated the nation from the others. The Apennines to the East weren’t as steep and rugged, allowing the people to be more connected and not as isolate like Greece. This made it Ideal for the government because then it would be easier to rule a connected nation than one that is separated by its geography. Greece fell because of the fiercely independent states, those states grew independent because they were isolated. Since the Romans wouldn’t be isolated, some parts of Rome wouldn’t be so independent, and Rome could stay unified.

Since the mountains leveled off into large flat plains which were ideal for growing crops. With much more space to produce food, the Romans could support their people better than the Greeks. This would make it easier for the government to rule because the people would be happy and pleased with being fed, and therefore easier to rule with little chance of revolt. It also allowed Rome’s government to expand easier because they could feed the people they conquered. This food surplus could allow Rome to focus on other problems other than food.

The river provided fresh drinking water for the people and connected the nation to the rest of the nations on the Mediterranean Sea. Which meant good trade and a better economy for the people and the government. The river made it ideal for the government because the people would be happy with their drinking water and their economy could be boosted by trade routes. Which could make the nation richer, and also since it was connected through the river to other nations, it could expand and conquer very fast. Although there was a big risk of floods with this river. Floods became a part of life for the Romans, these floods could kill and cause lots of damage to both buildings and people.

Rome was built on these hills on purpose. It offered protection for the cities and gave them the advantage in battles. Enemy attack could easily be diverted. It also helped the Romans see and scout future attack. This decision impacted the government in a positive way, because they didn't have to focus on protecting their city, but instead could focus on the economy, trade, culture, etc. Allowing Rome to grow in other area other than defense.
