The last two phone calls from Adnan's phone was to Hae. We have reason to believe that he created a lie to protect the truth and himself. And that is why this story is inconsistent because it is a lie.

He wants everyone to view him as the victim but he is actually the perpetrator.

Why: He got mad because Hae was still leading him on after they broke up, while she was with Don. So he decided to murder her after rage. Out of pure rage, he got out of the car and strangled her in the woods. He then proceeded to hide her body really well, and he hid it near the log so he would remember to "find" the body and report it to the cops, to make it seem like he's innocent.

Why: He heard his sister-in- law talking about Hae in passing, and maybe he didn't like what he heard. Maybe Hae was too much of a "perfect student", and it got on his nerves.
