         <description><![CDATA[<div>Elections- They redraw district lines based on census. A census is the official population count.&nbsp;<br>*50 senators=50 districts&nbsp;<br>*120 seats in House<br><br>Qualifications- Have to be 21 to be eligible for House and live in district for 1 year. Have to be 25 to be eligible for Senate and live in state for 2 years and live in the district for 1 year&nbsp;<br><br>General Assembly Leadership- The House of Rep in NC elects a speaker who presides over the house and makes key appointments. The lieutenant governor is also president of the senate, but this official votes only to break a tie. The Senate elects a President pro tempore who is the leader of the senate and makes all key appointments for the senate&nbsp;<br><br>Legislative Sessions- They meet for long sessions in odd number years, and they meet for short sessions in even number years. The General Assembly may also meet for special sessions called by the governor or by the speaker of the house and president of the state&nbsp;<br><br>Key Legislation- In 2005 the General Assembly voted to put into operation a educational state lottery. In 2006 the General Assembly approved a new minimum wage.<br>*House Bill #2- Popular nickname for act of single sex bathrooms and changing rooms </div>]]></description>
