         <description><![CDATA[<div>While playing with the crank slider mechanism I wondered if there was a simple mathematical way to calculate the amount of horizontal movement at the top of the slider based on the length of throw of the crank, distance of the upper support from the center of the crank etc.  Apparently it involves trigonometry so, no. -sherry</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love this one even though it doesn't work great.&nbsp; I learned you can't use a metal crank into a wood cam when it's got a lot of tension.&nbsp; Maybe your can but i don't know how.&nbsp; I used woods beads and a strong kite string for the snowman and polymerclay for the nose and hat.          <title>Ratchet mechanism</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Very pleased to finally get my ratchet mechanism to work. I did find I needed to add a T-peg under the pawl to prevent it from dropping below the ratchet wheel. This also gave me an appreciation for friction--if I were using a ratchet in a final creation I think I'd want something smooth like metal to prevent extra friction between the pawl and the ratchet wheel.<br>Sandra</div>]]></description>
