Britain and France had to pay the $10 billion borrowed from America. When the tariffs were placed it raised taxes on U.S. imports by 60%. This tax protected the U.S. businesses and it made it impossible for France and Britain to sell enough goods to repay debts to the U.S. Britain and France then looked to Germany. To avoid another war, Charles G. Dawes was sent to negotiate loans. Then the Dawes Plan was places in which, American investors loaned Germany $2.5 billion to pay back Britain and France with annual payments. Britain and France then paid back the U.S. which the U.S. arranged to be repaid with its own money. Afterwards the U.S. declared Britain and France financially irresponsible. Warren Harding wanted to achieve his pro-business goal, he wanted to cut the federal budget and reduce taxes. Harding and his advisers believed that it was the wealthy who started and expanded businesses. By taxing less businesses would grow and pull the nation out of hard times.This policy contributed to a period of prosperity but only for a little bit of time. Harding's  administration began to unravel as his corrupt friends engaged in graft. They used their offices improperly to become rich. The Teapot Dome scandal was the greatest example of corruption. The government set aside oil-rich public lands at Teapot Dome for the use by the U.S. navy. Albert B. Fall managed to get the oil reserves to the Interior Department. Then he secretly leased the land to two privately owned oil companies and he received $400,000 in loans, cash, and bonds. Transportation was a big impact in American life. The Automobile was the biggest success in the business industry in the 1920. The impact of the automobile led to Route 66. Route 66 gave people a route from Chi-cango to California. But some stayed and settled along the route.
 Air travel has emerged as a crucial means of transportation for people and products.   First aircraft have brought about a revolution in the way people travel. 
1920s credit helped businesses, When the stock market crashed, the excessive credit that was issued forced the consumers into poverty. 
Electricity played a major role in the 1920s.Many new things were made like Washer machines, vacuum cleaner, ovens, dishwashers, and many more. This helped doing household chores. 
The installment plan is a payment plan that allows customers to make payments at set intervals over a period of time until the total debt is paid. 
Many businesses (farmers) failed in the 20's. The businesses failed because of all the new machinery.This led to the rapid production of food. The more food that was produced led to prices dropping down, and farmers went bankrupt. During this time there was more advanced machinery and some farmers didn't have electricity.

Jazz was born within the early 20th century in New Orleans. In 1922 the trumpet player Louis Armstrong joined Oliver's group which became known as the Creole Jazz Band. Armstrong had great talent which made him really famous in the jazz world. He made a personal impact and a key role in the jazz age. Armstrong went onto become one of the most important and influential people in the history of jazz. Jazz quickly spread across cities such as, Kansas City, Memphis, and New York City. It became the most popular genre of music to dance to. In the late 1920s Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington, let his ten-piece orchestra at the Cotton Club. During the 1920s and 1930s Ellington won an award for one of America's greatest composers. His most popular works are "Mood Indigo" and "Sophisticated Lady." Cab Calloway popularized "scat" by using sounds instead of words. Bessie Smith was one of the most amazing vocalists of this decade. They wore things such as Close fitting felt hats, sleek pimps, and skin-toned silk stockings. Women would clip their hair up to have a boyish bobs and dying their hair jet black.  Some women would do things that only men would do at the time, which is drinking in public, smoking cigarette, and talking more openly about personal things.  
After all this happened, the double standard made. Double standard are rules or principles granting greater sexual freedom to men than women so women had stricter standards of behaviors than man.
