There are a few different psychological techniques that businesses can use, mainly with the overall aim to attract more customers which will generate more sales.
Later on In this part of the assignment I am going to be explaining how two business use psychological techniques. The two businesses that I am going to be using are Nike and Apple.
The different psychological techniques that businesses can use are; Interest, Imagination, Emotion and target market.
I am going to use these four techniques to as a way of explaining how the two businesses use these techniques to their advantage.

Interest - Both apple and Nike use this technique very well as they create new products that spark an interest in both of their customers minds, some reasons are similar and some are not. Apple are interesting as they are completely different and have different internal formats compared to all of their competitors where as Nike are interesting in a different way, they create vibrant coloured products which keep the interest of the brand and the products in the customers minds this helps businesses to make more sales as they will have repeat customers who come back and re-buy the products, weather its the same version or an updated one Apple for an example bring an updated version of their iPhone out yearly so they will have repeat custom as their loyal customers will come back and get the newer version.

Imagination - Just like the last technique that I spoke about both businesses, Apple and Nike are both imaginative for different ways. Apple and Nike create new designs that are new and different compared to other competitors that operate in their markets. Apple has the imaginative idea of creating a phone with a different format like I discussed before, but they also added other features to their products such as a buttonless and voice activated phone as it helps to draw in more customers, who are interested by this original idea/ feature and chose to make a sale with that business just for the feature that their product offers. Nike create different styled shoes that there competitors haven't made which is imaginative and works well as they win customers over and make sales as it is a type of shoe that they haven't seen before.

Emotion - Apple and Nike once again both use a technique in a similar way they both use the emotion technique to change a customers thoughts and feelings about the product or their business as a whole, Apple use inspiring videos to visually merchandise their products which usually highlights that their products can help to bring families together this helps to make more sales as people are inclined to purchase their products quite often as presents/ gifts for their families as the way that they have visually merchandised as made the consumers think that purchasing their product will have a similar affect on them just like the family in the video that they watched.

Target Market - Apple and Nike both need to use this technique as it helps them to generate more sales as visually merchandising towards the correct target market will do so as the product should be most suitable for that group compared to any other group. Apple have a wider target market compared to Nike as they can sell their products to almost anyone and is why they tend to use a family as a way of advertising as it caters for everyone. Nike however tend to aim what they do to younger people in their teen ages and therefore use a lot more bright, vibrant colours as it is a more appealing way to attract them.

These techniques tend to make a business more successful overall as it makes them have more sales and have more customers that could possibly generate more sales in the future. it also can do this by having return, loyal customers that come back and buy the products again or buy a more updated and newer version of the product.

B2.P4 - Explain how technological techniques are used by two contrasting retail outlets.
B.M2 - Analyse how psychological and technological techniques are used to increase business success.
And
A.M1 - Analyse the different approaches to visual merchandising used by contrasting businesses, supported by independent research.

Just like Psychological techniques, Technological techniques can be used by businesses to visually merchandise which overall will increase the amount of customers that a business gets and in which will result in the more sales that the business will make.
I am going to be using the same business as examples for this part of my assignment as I did earlier 'Apple and Nike'. the different technological techniques that the two businesses can use are; Interactive display screens and animated display boards.

Interactive display screens - these are used by both of the two businesses as a way for customers to check weather the store has significant stock for the needs of the customers, these display screens can also be used to show customers other information such as store opening times, descriptions of products and features that their products offer . The interactive display screens enable the customer to find out exactly what they want to know as they can narrow down the information on the display screen and have the correct answer the their exact question that they are trying to ask, this is being used of a way to ask the exact question you need answering without having to speak face to face to a person/employee.
doing this helps a business to become successful as it can save them money as they wont have to hire a an employee to stand in store answering questions that thee display screens now do.

Animated display boards are very similar however they cant be touched to direct you where you want t go, but they make the business successful in the same ways as it is a cheaper alternative to hiring employees and/or changing statics posters and display boards over when you want something else to be shown. These animated display boards can automatically change to show different posters/ graphic, which can obviously hold more information compared to static boards like I have already discussed.

These can both help lead to the success of a business for reasons like I have already discussed however they can also lead to the success of it as it as they can start a trend that other businesses will follow, this can attract more possible employees as they will want to be willing to work for a business that stays up to date with the times and always has the latest technology being used within its stores and within the business as a whole.

Apple is known for using display screens and touch screens in its stores to involve and interact with its customers and that is why I have Identified them and used them as an example.
