We work with schools to support children’s and young people's mental health. As part of this, we offer advice and resources for parents and carers to help support their child or young person’s wellbeing.

Our Parenting Smart site is full of articles, videos and advice to help you through manage any parenting challenges you may come across. Place2Be's Art Room Team create fun and engaging creative activities to support children and young people's wellbeing for you and your family to do at home.

What to expect at a SENDS 4 Dad event?

1. Understanding and Empathy: We get it. As dads of children with disabilities, we face unique situations. Whether it’s navigating medical appointments, advocating for our kids, or celebrating their achievements, we’re here for each other.

2. Practical Tips and Resources: Our group shares practical advice, from managing daily routines to accessing community services. We’ve got tips on everything from sensory-friendly outings to creating inclusive playtime.

3. Emotional Support: Sometimes, you just need someone who understands. Our dads group provides emotional support during tough times and celebrates victories together.

4. Connecting with Others: You’re not alone. Connect with fellow dads who’ve walked similar paths. Share stories, swap strategies, and find camaraderie.

5. Guest Speakers and Workshops: We invite experts to discuss relevant topics, such as legal rights, financial planning, and self-care. Learn from professionals and ask questions.

Young Person’s Autism Advisory Project (YAAP): For autistic young people aged 11–25. No diagnosis needed. Meets twice a month in Semilong.

Mini YAAP: For autistic children aged 8–11. No diagnosis needed. Meets monthly in Kingsthorpe.

Parent Support Groups: For parents/carers of autistic children and young people. Meets monthly at Delapre Abbey.

Autism Support: Free 1:1 support with 4–6 sessions tailored to individual needs. Drop-in sessions also available around the county.

SEN leisure swim sessions

Designed for individuals with disabilities or additional needs.

The monthly sessions are held on Saturdays outside of our normal opening hours, taking place in the 20m pool which is a warmer pool with accessible stairs and a hoist.

Our facility also offers x2 fully equipped changing rooms for individuals that require a hoist and movable bed to aid them in getting ready for the session.

Pre booking your space in advance is always recommended as our pools operate on maximum bather loads and we staff accordingly. Please note that these sessions are not instructor led.

If individuals require a carer, the carer must be present at all times. The carer can swim for FREE.

You can book directly with Action for Children. Action for Children will ask for further details of your child’s care requirements to ensure they can support your child to enjoy the activities safely and happily. There is a small cost, but help is available if needed. Email northants.disability@actionforchildren.org.uk to register.
