Yard sales are a demonstration of the Americans value of thrift, self-made profit, and community. Americans value a good deal--a cheap buy, which is often found at a yard sale instead of at high-end shopping malls for the same items. Americans value capitalism--Laisseiz-Faire economics, in which individuals may make a profit free of government intervention, which is seen in the tax-free transactions made through yard sales. Americans also highly value community; people coming together with their neighbors and exchanging goods and services(the very definition of a yard sale).
