Women's domestic role, constant round of housework and childcare imposes severe restrictions on their time and movement and confines them to the house so they don't have much chance to offend. Women who try to reject their domestic role may find that their partners impose it through force (domestic violence). Dobash and Dobash show many violent attacks result from men's dissatisfaction with their wives performance of domestic duties. Men also show control with their financial power e.g. Denying women sufficient funds for leisure activities. Daughters are subject to this as well as they are less likely to be able to come and go as they please or to stay out late, as a, result they may develop a bedroom culture. They also have to do more housework than boys so have less chance to llengage in deviant behaviour.

Women no longer commit traditional ‘female’ crimes, like shoplifting and prostitution, they commit ‘male’ offences like violent and white collar crimes. This is because of women’s greater sense of self-confidence and assertiveness, and greater opportunities in the legitimate structure. For example, there are more women in senior positions at work, giving them more opportunities to commit serious crimes like white collar crimes, such as fraud.
