Discussion Highlights:
- Ashby and DiMaggio feel that this section is pretty interesting because Siddhartha is truly becoming a dynamic character and beginning to understand his calling
- Bigeni was surprised to see the step Siddartha made in his journey when he decided to leave her old ways behind, and establish a new way of life. When he made this switch, he was able to meet Kamala, who will eventually have a major impact on him.
-Krokondelas was surprised how Siddharta took more of an initiative in his life. Kamala has had a major effect on Siddhartha’s thoughts and actions.
- This section of the book is definitely more interesting than the beginning because it gives more into the characters lives and truly begins to describe how Siddhartha really came to be.

1. Our group is doing really well as we are almost done with the book. We have mixed opinions on the novel, however, we are still getting through it. Some of us are on the fence about the novel, and some of us enjoy it. Overall, this book club was very succesful.
2. One major theme from the novel is that one should follow their own path to what benefits them the most. This isn't just a life lesson that we should abide by, but it is also a prominent lesson in the book. It is extremely interesting to see the cultural differences shown in the book and how people change to follow what they believe is right.
3. Two questions our book club has about this novel is-

What role does spirituality play in Siddhartha's journey?
How does the setting of ancient India influence the story and characters?

Discussion Highlights:
- Overall, we all agreed that this book was very boring
- Bigeni and Krok feel like Siddhartha’s basically an irrelevant book that provides little to no insight to our world today
- Will and DiMaggio disagree however, as they feel like Siddhartha resembles the Buddhist religion, easily one of the most popular religions in modern day
- I don’t believe we would recommend this book to anyone because it’s pretty boring. However, with that being said it’s really short and does have some good parts, so it’s not the worst read ever.

Discussion Highlights:
- Jackson is not a huge fan of the book because he finds it quite boring and doesn’t really think it applies to each of us
- DiMaggio loves the book because he is super into the history of it and thinks it’s actually a neat and interesting story
- Krokendelas is fine with the book because he thinks it’s pretty interesting and seems to be developing well but nothing has really happened yet and it’s still somewhat an introduction
- Ashby is also indifferent about the book because he’s not a huge fan of reading in general but he doesn’t think the book is bad, just not up to what he would consider interesting

John DiMaggio: Journal reflection

Quote: “We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps.”

In this quote, Siddartha is indirectly referencing that life is an extensive journey and it isnt steady. There are a lot of obstacles in our lives and our live are progressive, as Sadarthha constantly stresses in the novel.

Jackson Bigeni- Journal Relfection:

Quote: “It is not for me to judge another man's life. I must judge, I must choose, I must spurn, purely for myself. For myself, alone.”

This quote is significant because it reflects the reoccurring theme of the book of finding oneself. In this novel, Siddartha is constantly embarking on the quest of finding who he truly is and his self worthiness.

William Ashby-Journal Reflection

Quote:
"I, who wished to read the book of the world and the book of my own nature, did presume to despise the letters and signs. I called the world of appearances, illusion. I called my eyes and tongue, chance. Now it is over; I have awakened. I have indeed awakened and have only been born today." Chapter 4, pg. 33

-This quote is significant because Siddhartha realizes how previously he was blind while searching and didn’t search the truth and authenticity of things instead he wandered variously.

1. Siddhartha constantly follows his own path in wha the most venerable one teaches him in hopes of salvation. Siddhartha tells the Buddha that he still hopes to embark on a pilgrimage, even though Govinda will not.
2. The key plot of the book is still developing. Furthermore, we have started to make predictions about Siddhartha’s journey and path.
3. The book has many hidden themes and analogies that are hidden within conversations between the people in the book.
