At the last meeting I asked if there was universal assessment (all students) of fluency. You told me there was. Could I have some follow-up information on that? I represent ACSD and am also part of SEPTA and a 2e parents group. There are numerous concerns shared in all 3 of these organizations about reading fluency being ignored. Then the students who struggle with fluency don't get supports in terms of screen readers, training in dictation tools, and reduced assignments.

Thanks for this forum! Here is something I would like to hear more about: l asked at the 2nd meeting for oversight and accountability in adapted classrooms for using FCPS-approved adapted literacy curriculum as appropriate for each student (meaning multiple curriculums delivered in the classroom to meet the varying needs of students). I commend the call for accountability for general education teachers to commit time to phonics and phonemic awareness. But I also feel then that similar accountability must exist in the adapted curriculum classrooms. Thanks!

I commend the idea of "grab and go" lessons to help teachers transition to phonics and phonemic awareness lessons, if they weren't already part of their teaching. For equity, please work with DSS on supplying "grab and go" lessons to adapted classroom teachers as well. They need their own easily-searchable platform to find ready-to-go lessons. You could simply share the resources generated for gen ed in the pacing guide, but put it in a platform that is searchable by skill (not grade level and week).
