Use a very simple set of pictorial questions to guide student self -assessment. (see below)

• Small group centre based sessions where children are encouraged to talk about their observational drawing - asking what do you see?  How can you try it? 

• Five minute writing - journals - encourage students to do it on their own- what was your favourite, what did you learn, what have we been doing, draw a picture of all the things we’ve been doing, who were you playing with, why did you like what we did, why didn’t you like what we did - CHILDREN CAN CHOOSE WHEN AND IF THEY GO TO THE WRITING TABLE

In parent teacher interviews, use the language of reflection, encouraging parents to ask their children questions about "What did you do?  How can you make it even  better? What could you do next?  What if we tried…..?”

• Use a parent/student teacher communication book to record behaviours throughout the day - focus on specific self assessing behaviours your are observing or that you are aiming to develop in particular students.

•  Record observed behaviours with an online journal such as seesaw/Active Learning Journal.
  • Keep a portfolio for parents (either digitial or paper) which shows growth against specific self-adjusting behaviours - for example could include writing their name at different points in the year and point out the changes the child had made, audio record or video record a discussion with the student about their writing or their drawing asking specific questions about what they are doing and how they plan to improve it.
  • Make it a two way digital portfolio where parents send a message/photo/video of their child displaying target self-adjusting learning behaviours eg - taking action or initiative to set up a shop and play money games and are using the vocabulary of money.

• Provide parents with a checklist of target reflective behaviours for a two week period
  • Link with the Topic or UOI that the children are focussed on

Discuss behaviours with other teachers as a way of comparing behaviours in different context of the school.

•  Discuss behaviours with other teachers, to comparing similar behaviours across a year group.- collaboration and planning time - discussing some of the observations we’ve made - 

• Have a staff member who is particularly focused on observing and scaffolding the self-adjusting behaviours for that week.

• Invite teachers from outside the learning centre to come to observe a learning journey as a “culmination” of a topic or unit or inquiry
  • Have conversations or play with the children
  • Observe the teacher in how he or she is working to develop the self-adjusting behaviours in the learners - mentoring - Maybe the teacher from the next year level up could do this
