Dilemma

The dilemma that I am currently facing is keeping the attention of certain students. Whenever I am teaching a lesson, or giving a test, there seems to be a few boys who are off in space and do not pay attention. When giving a test, I try to circle the room and make sure that all students are at the same point, but I occasionally find the students two or three questions behind. I do my best to get the students caught up as quickly as possible without holding up the other students. These students sit at the front of the classroom so that they are able to stay on task, but it does not seem to help. This dilemma is important to me because it slows down the whole class, and if I would not catch that these students are behind, these students could potentially miss a bunch of questions even though they know the answers. If not resolved, I may have issues with time management because I am continuously having to go back to these students and get them caught up. Pertaining to the CLF, I would say that I need to work on Standard A1. Actively Engage All Learners in the Learning Process. This dilemma has caused me to be very aware of all students and how on task each student is.

A success that I have had within these last few weeks of student teaching is improving on my behavior management techniques. I find this a success because the students respect me more and are learning more because they are paying attention instead of talking to their neighbors. In future incidents, I will be able to use the techniques that I have found that work with the students to keep them on track. I have learned that I do well in Informed Flexibility, specifically D3. Monitor and Appropriately Adjust Classroom Management Strategies During Teaching.
