Jamie is a sheltered girl who's father is a minister. When Landon is required to do community service as a punishment, him and Jamie meet. They were both the leads in the upcoming school play. As he begins to take his role seriously, they became closer. She "jokingly" tells him not to fall in love with her, which he doesn't see being a problem. Even though they had been spending time together outside of school, when she asked him if they were still on for their plans, he mocks her in front of his friends. Landon sees how beautiful Jamie is during the play and he kisses her on stage. He continues to try to get close to her but she rejects him until he punches 2 people making fun of her. They begin to date and do the activities on her bucket list together. She eventually tells him that she is dying of leukemia. She becomes overcome with emotion and flees from him. They make up the next day and they continue to make the most of the time they have left. Once she is near the end, Landon's father surprises him and pays for her to have in home care. Jamie and Landon wed in the church her parents married in. Shortly after she died. The ending leaves the reader in a jumble of emotions.
