So far, psychology has been an extremely scientific course where everything has to be operationalized in order to be measured therefore also making it a very mathematical subject. Some of the IB learner attributes that can be related to the subject are caring, inquirer, open-minded, and reflective. These should all be applied when studying psychology because we need to care about the participants in our experiment. According to the ethics rules we cannot allow them to be harmed in any way or form making us always consider the participant's stand point in the research. We need to be inquirers and extremely reflective in order to make connections between what we see and the experiments we should perform. For example, before creating an experiment we should reflect on a previously observed behaviour, make an inquiry about the behaviour, reflect upon weather this inquiry can be ethically experimented, if yes, perform the experiment, and finally reflect upon the results. Open-mindedness is a very important aspect of psychology since we cannot generalize a group solemnly based on personal opinion, and when a personal opinion is proved wrong we need to be able to accept our own ideas as incorrect.

International mindedness means to be aware of ones world not only on its surface but deep into its core. Much like E.Hall's Cultural Iceberg Model of Culture, we all know different cultures and customs but few understand the deeper aspects of life such as values, perceptions, assumptions, thought process, etc. All of these aspects with abstract meanings can be observed and tested through psychological research. Take values as an example, one can conduct an experiment testing the items or things people value most by setting off a fire alarm and seeing which items a person is most likely to take, if they take anything at all, or if they ignore the alarm and in some ways give up their lives. Of course, this is merely a somewhat "creative" example, not very realistic. A more realistic example would be Milgram's experiment which set out to test obedience towards authority figures which can be internationally shared and studied.

Theory of knowledge is the study of learning how to learn and learning where our knowledge comes from or how we learned it. Due to TOK's learn how to learn aspect, we can easily relate it to psychology in the sense that a lot of experiments test how humans learn to behave the way they do. I find the connections to TOK very interesting because in some ways the two subjects are extremely similar. All subjects can be related to and studied through the lens of both subjects. Psychology is also needed to understand the basic human behaviours studied in TOK, much like when discussing where fear comes from and why large numbers of people tend to have the same fears.

Psychology so far, could be summarized as understanding ones needs through personal and scientific ways. The IB learner profile and Psychology, relate to each other by various ways. Such as being a 'thinker', means that in order to achieve a certain goal through your research you must analyze. Analyzing through your steps, and errors in which you learn from them. Being principled, as a psychologist means that in order to be effective you must have a set of your own morals through your study. Gandhi for example, wasn't the best principled, although he was against violence, which shows his principles and how effective he was to people. Applying being a communicator can debatably be the most difficult, in psychology one must be understanding to someones mind through comprehending and respect. Therefore, being reflective should have limits a psychologist should always give one what they need in an effective matter, for them to grow. To be an inquirer, should apply the most in psychology, because looking for answers should open up new knowledge, for understanding more. Moreover, having balance relates to psychology by first understanding ones self, before understanding someone else, to have balance within. In psychology, while searching for a specific answer, it's not always going to be one answer, in which one has to search for other answers which equal to getting out of your comfort zone. Being open minded extremely relates to psychology, if one isn't able to open their mind, how will it understand it. On the other hand, to care should mean to relate ones self to another, to being able understand why people act or think the way they do. In addition to the IB learner profile, through Psychology, if one is not accepting to other ways of thinking, how will they expand their study? Therefore, 'International 'Mindedness', has to do with the attitude and the way you think and accept in various ways. Thus, a connection to 'The Theory of Knowledge', is that can one make sacrifices for the purpose of science? - Dana Kamel.

Psychology has been an invigorating course that challenged my basic understanding of the world and of human behavior. Psychology helps you to become more of an inquirer and thinker, because there are so many questions brought up that need quite a lot of thinking and research. Each question is followed by extensive experimenting and analysis and even more questions. Through this, we become more knowledgeable and aware of, not only human behavior, but the many external and internal factors that affect it. We reflect upon what we learn and apply it in everyday life, whether its how people act and respond, or how to reach a conclusion (to anything). We learn the importance of principles and morals in Psychology. We are aware of the ethical considerations and standards that ever psychologist (and anyone who conducts an experiment in general) must abide by and the vitality of not violating them.

From what I have observed so far in our Psychology course, open and international mindedness are key factors in understanding and accepting theories and the questions that they are derived from. One must always be open to new ideas and conclusions that are discussed in the course. One must also appreciate the complexity of humans, their behavior and what affects it. One also gets to understand the beauty of difference; everyone comes from a different background and society, and their unique upbringing strongly impacts their way of thinking and acting.

As we are constantly informed, the Theory of Knowledge applies to everything, and psychology is no exception. The main concept of psychology is getting to understand human behavior and what affects it. We want to learn how we do the things we do and why we do them. We are constantly questioning theories and previous concepts. This relates greatly to TOK because, in TOK, we question how we know, what we know, and why we know it.

Psychology is a study of human behavior and can relate to many attributes of the IB learner profile, including being caring, balanced , principled, inquirers, and communicators. According to the code of ethics, an experimentor must be caring and consider participants' emotions while conducting an experiment. One of the ethical considerations can also relate to being principled and acting with honesty throughout an experiment. This includes producing unfabricated data even if the results are ineffectual. A person must also be balanced in order to perform an experiment. This includes being emotionally, intellectually, and physically stable. Being balanced can prevent biases from forming in certain experiments. An example would be if a person is not emotionally balanced, it is possible for an experiment to be affected by the experimentor's emotions. It is also essential for psychologists to be inquirers. As inquirers, physiologists should question human behavior and the different factors affecting it. This leads to conducting an experiment based on their inquiry. After experimenting, psychologists must also learn to communicate and share their findings with others. This shared knowledge can be used to study human behavior and might also lead to more questions.

Psychology is related to international mindedness in several forms. It can be used to spread global and interculrural awareness by examining different cultures and become aware of certain environmental influences.

TOK is related to psychology because both courses question how we know what we know. Psychology studies how humans are able to know how to act or behave a certain way. Some people might behave or act a certain way due to experience. In TOK, this is considered personal knowledge which a person acquires from experience.

Throughout my journey in IB every course that i have selected had and will continue impacting me in a different way and change my understanding and perspective about something. The most interesting course that i'm glad i chose is psychology, the fact that you can study the human mind and understand his/her behavior is mind blowing in my opinion.. Knowing why someone would react to a certain thing in that way and why another one reacts differently. Psychology uses some of the qualities that are in the IB learner profile for example, Psychology includes risks for your experiments which requires you to be a risk taker and open-minded for the variety of experiments that you will make; knowledge and continuous question asking is involved also because everything that you do as a psychologist has to be double checked and if possible improved through asking "what if i do that or place this there".

I think that in Psychology you indeed need to be "internationally minded" but that comes by its own self and what kind of personality you have and what environment you surround yourself with.

TOK ( theory of knowledge) is basically asking questions and knowing where they come from, psychology is full of question asking and finding and where and how those questions were found, For example in psychology we study humans and their behavior and then we ask "why" and "what if"? in TOK its basically the same thing but after asking the questions you ask where you got the questions from and what made you ask the questions. In psychology i don't think this is required, but you do have to test the answer of your question.

Heidi Rabie

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind. It describes how and why people behave or act in a certain way. Psycholgy can relate to most of the attributes of the IB learner profile. For experimemters it is essential for them to take care of the participants during an experiment. According to the APA ethics code, experimentors aren't allowed to cause any physical or intellectual harm to any participant. Being principled is another attribute that can narrate to psychology. Participants have the right to know what the experiment is going to be about, and its the expermineters responsibility to maintain honesty and to adress them with accurate information. Psychology alows us to be inquirers and thinkers. It is essential for psycholigists to ask questions and to research and analyze certain experiments. We also reflect on what we already know and the new information that has been gained and utilize it in everyday life. It is crucial for psychologists to have an open mind and to be able to accept different perspectives and results.

International mindess is a way of thinking and comprehending the complications of the different people and ideas that surrond us. It allows people to be open and accept different ethical backgrounds. Not everyone was raised or taught the same way.

The theory of knowledge (TOK) questions how and where our knowledge comes from. Psychology and TOK, both implicate questions on how or why people act in a certain behavior or manner. In psychology, we question both shared and personal knowledge. At first, psychologists believe that peoples behavior change according to the enviormmemt that surronds them (shared knowledge). It is certainly proven that this statement is correct due to previous experiments (personal knowledge).

As psychology is the study of how we think, and how we interact with each other, I believe it is related to the IB learner profile attributes and international mindedness. The attributes enable us to be internationally minded which could be explained through psychology. Also, the IB learner profile builds up our psychological characteristics. The international mindedness means understanding ourselves inorder to connect with other which is related to psychology because it helps us better understand ourselves. Also meaning understanding other's perspective, language and culture, international mindedness becomes more relatable with psychology especially the social psychology which deals with social interaction. As being open-minded is one attribute of the IB learner profile, it connects to psychology as when you are conducting any research, you must not be bias.

"How do we know what we know?" That's the main question of theory of knowledge as well as a question an inquirer would ask. Even though, I have only been in IB for 3 weeks so far, I have come to ask more questions that I usually do. I am a person than not only asks questions but also explores. Theory of knowledge does relates to psychology because it questions how the ways of knowing play a role in psychology.

my experience with Ib psychology has been going on a little farris wheel ride for the past month; having a lot of highs and lows with the occasional middle ground. psychology is a unifying power; it allows us to attempt to solve the mysteries of the human mind scientifically together and as a whole; it is not a subject to be studied by the self centered. it relates to the IB learner profile in all aspects, not just one. Psychology allows us to communicate with the people around us with an open heart and mind; while also allowing us to do the more diffcicult thing and doing so with our selves. we humans are so invested in the way we present ourselves and concuct our actions, that we at times forget the very essence of who we are. in that way, psychology offers us a mental balance by allowing us to understand our needs and desires more clearly; and to not be driven by a force we do not understand. it allows us to be caring and understanding with those who cannot express themselves; it allows us to inquire about psychology as a science and the phenomenaus and theories that drive us mad; in a way psychology does drive one mad because of the way it makes us more vulnurable and open to the world. international mindedness is expected when studying this course, as it forces you to view the ethicality of each experiment and find new ways to present a more humane alternative to each task at hand. it also allows us to relate to different cultures and societies in a better way. psycholgy is unifying and ever evolving; and hopefully in the future will be more than what it is today.
