2. What did society understand God’s role in trials by ordeal to be?
- Could this have influenced their belief that these trials were a fair or just way to prove one’s innocence?

3. Sometimes, compurgators (people who swore oaths on the character of the accused person) were used by people being accused of a crime to support their own oaths in trials. The more compurgators of a good reputation that the accused had to speak on their behalf, the more likely the accused person was of being found innocent of a crime.
- Would swearing an oath to God have been enough for people of the lower classes? 
- Would the poor have had access to the same people of good reputation to swear on their behalf? 
- How would this have affected the type of trial available to them?
