The gender perspective is about the impact of different genders, social and behavior on people’s opportunities, social roles and interactions. Feminist critic may see cultural and economic disparities as the product of a patriarchal society. Being lucky does not mean one gender is more lucky than the other. Luck is referred to money and Hester thinks she is lucky compared to her husband. Paul was obsessed in gambling because he wanted to prove that he is also lucky. Hester describes her husband as an “unlucky husband”. With this expression it is easy to see that Hester does not love her husband. Lawrence uses this phrase to’ demonstrate Hester’s inability to love and imply that her cravings for money is what turns her love to “dust” and causes the failure to her marriage.

The Rocking Horse winner  is a short story  by DH Lawrence  .The Rocking Horse Winner  relates the desperate and foredoomed effort of a young boy to win his mother's  love by seeking the luck that she bitterly maintains she doesnot have, by bringing  her the luxurious  life far which she longs Paul hopes to win her love to compensate  her for her unhappiness with his father and to bring peace  to the anxious  ,unhappy  household he detetmines to find luck after a conversation  with  his mother .In which  she tells him that she is not lucky  having married  an unlucky husband  and that it is better  to have luck than money because  luck brings money .In response  Paul clearly accepts  the unspoken invitation   to take his father's  place  in fulfilling his mother's  dreams of happiness. His purpose seems to be fulfilled  when with the help of Bassett  the gardener he begin to win money betting  on horse races shortly  there after he confides in his uncle Oscar whom he also considers lucky because  Oscar's gift of money  started his winning  streak .Paul,Oscar  and Bassett  continue to bet and win until  Paul has five thousand  pounds  to give his mother  for her birthday to be distributed  to her over the next five years  when she receives the anonymous  present she does not  seem at all happy but set whole five thousand pounds  at once as a result  Hester becomes  even more obsessed with  money increasingly anxious for more also the house which previously  seemed to whisper  "There must more money  ! Paul uses simile to show how society laughs at people like his mother behind their back while praising them to their faces.The whisper of the house refers to the dissatisfaction felt by Paul's mother,Hester over the lack of money coming into the house. Setting and context -England in 1949.
Narration- third person narrator
Protagonist- Paul and there is no antagonist.
Major conflict- Paul's mother, Hester is dissatisfied with the material possessions. 
Contrast and drastic irony are the two important literary devices included in the story.
Climax- Paul's mother comes home from the party, worried about her son, only to discover him riding his rocking-horse violently and screaming the name of the nexf winner of the race. He collapses.
Foreshadowing- The narrator mentions that Paul has a 'secret within secrets' and it's clear that Paul is always keeping something from others.
Understatement- Paul tells his mofher that she has nothing to worry about even though his riding his rocking-horse is clearly deteriorating his mental health.
Paradox- Paul's mother wants more money but when she gets more money, she becomes even more dissatisfied.
