The requirements were that all men between the ages of 21 and 45 register for the Selective Service, AKA Draft. Those who were draft were required to spend at least one year in the military forces, but that time increased with the amount of fighting that took place in WWII.

These services included Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), Women's Auxiliary Air Force(WAAF), or the Women's Royal Naval Service(WRNS). The ATS was the largest of the services, allowing women to work many jobs like cooks, drivers, clerks, or serving anti-aircraft batteries. The WAAF allowed women to compile weather reports, maintain aircraft, and serve on airfields. The WRNS gave women the opportunity to release men for their service at sea and work shore-based jobs.

Members of each race were segregated from the rest of the army. Each minority got the same rate of pay. Minority women in WWII struggled to find industry jobs at home because white women weren't willing to work beside them.

Rosie the Riveter was a representation of all the women who worked in factories during WWII, symbolizing feminism. The majority of women participating in World War Two took over factory jobs that had been previously held by men. Many women developed a sense of self-reliance during WWI. Many women began working as chemists and engineers and thousands of women worked on the Manhattan Project.

In 1943, women represented 65% of the aircraft industry's total workforce.

The OPA rationing limited the quantity of items such as coffee, sugar, rubber shoes, and gasoline. Tires, cars, bikes, and stoves were also rationed during the war. The OPA was eventually disbanded on May 29th, 1947.

As a result of the OPA, the black market activity increased. Many restaurants had to make meatless food in order to conserve the nations meat supply.

War bonds were used as a symbol of patriotism and helped prevent wartime inflation. War bonds were advertised in magazines, on the radio, and newspapers.

Many of the propaganda posters had patriotic messages on them. The saying "loose lips sink ships" became popular, it cautioned citizens against leaking information. Some posters had hate messages towards Adolph Hitler and some racist images of Japanese people.

The United States government had a policy that people of Japanese decent would be placed into isolated camps in reaction to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Japanese Americans lost their rights and were separated from their families for the duration of the war. Many were scared that people of Japanese decent were going to turn against the American army in World War II after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
