DSDM is suitable for this project for several reasons. DSDM projects have a fixed cost, time and quality requirement with the only flexibility being the features/specifications of the project which would not be a problem since non-functional requirements such as “level of downtime not exceeding 4 hours at any time” are not absolutely essential for the project delivery. This project has an estimated cost of 1M. It is critical that the project stays within this budget because the company has been facing financial challenges and are at risk of not surviving. It’s imperative that they meet the deadline of 3 months or less to deliver because their competitors will be opening a new location locally and they predict that this would be devastating to the business if they are unable to beat them to the market with this system. With that said, implementing DSDM principles would not pose much of a challenge since top management have already fully taken ownership of the project and have been trained in DSDM awareness. The requirements, although not clear can be prioritized which would help them control the time and cost constraints. Developers are also already familiar with the business areas and h/w or s/w that will be used.

by Jan
