It was composed by three people in 1770: Manuel de Espinosa, Bartolomè Casas and Francisco Grau.
This hymn was originally sang by soldiers. As the music is not typical of Spain researchers have claimed that it was written in Europe (France or Germany).
There have been many attempts to compose lyrics for the anthem but they have never become official.

George'cross(red and white) and the Scotland's flag, which is made by S. Andrea's cross ( white and light blue) abs the Irish's flag formed by S.Patrick's cross( red and white).
It's called Union Jack too, because it was used for the sailing and rappresented the Great Britain's fleet.
The hymn was written in the first half of 18 century and it's the oldest one in the world.

Blue and red represent the colors of the city of Paris, while white represented the Bourbon dynasty, and after the fall of the monarchy it was attributed to St. Joan of Arc.
