They have not yet realized the importance of planning and graphic organizers. With TC, the focus is on getting the students to put pen to paper, which is encouraging. However, the pre-planning skill is not a big part of these lessons. I suggest more direct modeling of these organizers to help the students feel more comfortable with writing longer, more elaborate pieces.

They also need examples of narrative  writing and lots of practice to enable them to be successful in this task. Also, they can use a pre-writing organizer and a  sequencing/transition word list to help them with their writing.

Only then can a fair norming take place and all teachers are on the same page.

In terms of the implications for teachers, it is important for us to know what the expectations are beforehand. In turn, we can then inform students about the expectations according to the rubric and norms that we come up with as a scoring team.
