To me, a global citizen is someone who focuses on how we as humans are all members of one larger world community. To me, global citizenship means acknowledging that we live in political borders, but choosing to focus on how we all have an obligation to serve and help those around us in our larger global community.

Hi everyone! My name is Chelsie (she/her). I am a Haitian-American from Newark, New Jersey with aspirations of being a secondary English educator in my hometown. I am a senior at Wheelock on the Teaching & Learning pathway with a specialization in Global Citizenship, which has brought me here this semester.

I transfered to BU last year after taking a gap year between my freshman and sophomore years of college. I spent my gap year working full time as an Assistant Preschool Teacher in the Back Bay. The term "global citizenship" brings a few things to mine. If I had to describe it briefly, I'd say that the concept is a commentary on the interconnectedness of the world, and the importance of recognizing the gravity of our presence in it. It has to do with the range of perspectives, cultures, languages, traditions, and above all, stories, that interact with one another day in and day out, and how, despite how vast the world is, we contribute to a larger community, and have a responsibility to be aware of this reality.
