Bike sounds! The reason I’ve done this is that my journey to work today was possible by bike, a habit I want to keep as it’s nice to be out and about. Not particularly pedagogy related, though it does get me from A-B and back again, and I appreciate the environment and changing seasons more when I cycle!

A little recording- just finished my dance meditation class, I was noticing all the birds outside. When I listen back to this it’s more traffic noise and people than nature- interesting!

Dogs

My dogs insist that even after they have been fed, they must have missed molecules. So they continue to lick their bowls, switch and then lick each other's bowls, making music with their name tags and the side of the bowl. The sound of hope!

Wind

This time of year in the Seattle area is very grey, rainy, and windy. At my place the wind blows off the lake and up the hill in a tunnel and howls. The wind sounds like the prototypical sounds of ghosts "oooooohh" and the chimes of my and neighborhood homes clanking like chains. I love that wind itself doesn't have a sound but thru the instruments it plays of our world

November 4th- crossing University Avenue

University Avenue, one of the main roads by the campus, is very busy, even at 6pm. I recorded the sound of the beeping pedestrian crossing this evening, such a UK traffic noise.

Today I was trying to do a cool down set of exercises but there was a class on, it was LOUD.. the song which was playing is one which for some reason seems to energise many people in the West of Scotland (a local DJ used it as a bit of an anthem many years ago and it seems to “stick” as a song where folk get up and dance, even in the street).

I could also have recorded fireworks tonight, as that’s the noise which rings out all evening on 5 November here. Thinking of the US, and wondering what the following few days will bring.

I have had a hard time tuning in two things around my world and have felt very much the need to stay within myself. I'm aware of that being able to identify and capture sounds from my environment requires the ability to step out of oneself. Today I'm sitting at my partner's house and he has a fish tank with no fish in it but loves to keep the filter going, all of the fake plant life in there, and the lights changing for it soothing effect. Today that is working for me

My partner's place is right by a major train line. This is the sound that's we hear in the night and throughout the day. Mostly what's cool is that laying in bed, the house rumbles and the bed rocks. It's very soothing

Today I stood on my porch just to capture the sounds of a plane overheard, a crow nearby, passing cars. But inside while my son is at school and my dogs are quietly napping on the heating blanket, I am struck by how little sound there is

Sound of air

I have an air filter in my living room and there's always this soft white noise from it. Recently I moved some plants around, and I placed this one potted palm by the air filter. I was sitting and enjoying the sun coming in the windows (finally!) and heard this scratching sound. It is the leaves of the palm rubbing together from the air coming from the filter. It's interesting to "hear" air in the various soft sounds it makes moving through and against things.

Went on a countryside walk and was amused by the sheep, they sounded so loud, like someone had given them a megaphone! We were up the hill from them, they were in a field at the bottom of the hill

One of the beauties of the Pacific Northwest in the States is how green it is and how many trees there are. But last night we had something that people call a bomb cyclone and there are downed trees and leaves everywhere.
