•	Rare for a woman to be working in these times, especially high up in any field of work
•	Was talked to respectfully by the men she worked with
•	Stands up for herself especially to men
•	Wasn’t nominated for a Nobel prize
•	Her father didn’t want her to become a scientist because it’s too hard for a woman to do well

•	Full name: Rosalind Elsie Franklin
•	Rosalind Franklin was a female chemist in the 50’s which was extremely unusual.
This is because in this era women were not normally educated and if they did attend ‘secondary school’, they were taught cookery and house hold management not science.
•	Rosalind’s discoveries lead to a more in depth understanding of the structure of DNA.
•	Rosalind was the science partner of Maurice Wilkins, even though it was assumed that she was assisting him.
•	Died of ovarian cancer in 1958.
•	Her work was stolen by three other scientists, Maurice Wilkins, James Watson and Francis Crick, who then received a Nobel Prize after she passed away.
•	Attended school at St. Paul's Girls' School
•	Studied at the University of Cambridge.
•	She was brought up in a well-known Jewish family.
