It is portraying an imitation of the original film, being a playful and funny twist on the original. The film imitates the original through identical scenes, characters and locations to create a comic and satirical narrative.

For the audience, another indicator that it imitates the original is through the direct message of “saga” referring to the twilight saga books that the original film is based on.

Everybody wears late 80s Armani and Valentino etc, style at the time was a historic quotation of 50s fashion.

High low culture. He obsesses over not very interesting pop music as if they are great great works of art.

Pastiche of the slasher movie.

An example of Simulacra in the show is through the setting and props used as a representation of reality. Set in Staten Island New York. Recognisable with the audience. There are many intertextual references to other media, for example twilight is referenced which is a highly recognised vampire series. Pastiche of the vampire genre and of the recognisable/ stereotypical idea of a vampire I.e. traditional costume. The genre of the show is a mockumentary which is itself a parody of documentary programmes. And itself is a parody of the myths associated with vampires, instead of vampires being scary they’re more seen as the but of the jokes. Self reflexivity, builds a self-contained fantasy world which is a simulacra of reality.

• Pastiche

  The entire film is made up of story lines, dialogue, camera angles, characters, hairdos and weapons inspired by previous well known films.

• Intertextuality

  Intertextuality is a key postmodern feature in this film.

  Many different genres are represented in the film such as gangsters, boxing, war, musical, romance and arthouse.

  Cross links to other Tarantino films such as Resevoir Dogs (1992) and The Assassin (1993).

  Travolta plays someone with the possible future of the character he played in Saturday Night Fever , which signifies that Tarantino certainly intended to make this reference.

  The trendy diner Jack Rabbit Slim's is full of references to 1950's stars and movies.
