Courtney Warkentin and Cass Esau founded this organization. We are both Canadians, students, seventeen and caring individuals.

What's the importance of this?

This issue is important because people shouldn't be living in these conditions, no matter what they've done. Homelessness happens all around us and could happen to anyone. We cannot imagine not having a home to go to or having the basics needed to live.

Who works for your organization?

We have university students who care strongly about our organization who give up time from their personal lives to volunteer. It is also open to people who need to finish community service. We would also have school groups volunteer and educate them on ways to avoid homelessness and give them resources if they ever get i the situation.

What is our mission?

Our mission is to help the homeless with the basic needs to get them back on track. We want them to feel comfortable with us and our volunteers, we want to make connections with the people who come in. We will help provide food, transportation, jobs, place to sleep, rehab and clothing. We will also provide a "family" feeling community to make them feel like they matter and have a standard to live up, a goal to hit.

What programs are we using?

We have two shelters in Downtown Winnipeg with beds, showers, a soup kitchen, clothing drop off, rehab and job connections. At both locations we also have a team ready to connect and make everybody who enters the door feel welcome. We have a 6 month program to directly get 10 youth off the streets. We will help them find a home, job and a new beginning.

How is your organization funded?

We are funded from the government as well as grocery stores, bakery's and clothing stores. We have a few local business that fund our buildings and help pay for the supplies needed. We also take donations from the public.

How is our funding effective?

We have the testimony's of various people who have been through our programs and used our resources to encourage people to support our cause. We depend on donations and the local business and community.

We always are willing to take any volunteers, items and donations that people are willing to give. You can also get involved by advocating for our organization so we can grow and help more people.

Founder: Hannah Taylor

The Ladybug Organization was started when Hannah Taylor was 8, for all of those without a home. It hurt her to see the struggling people on the street and she wanted to do something about it. Hannah has been able to reach out to not only the homeless but to Prime Ministers and to celebrities about what is going on, on the streets. She believes that everyone deserves a roof over their head and food to eat.

Suk Woon Lee founded Siloam Mission in Winnipeg in the  August of 1987,

Who runs/works for this organization?

 Mainly volunteers alongside of the board directors and executive leaders.

What is their mission?

The objective is to help the less fortunate through hardships and to give them opportunities to help them later in life, which is also shown through the Christian based mission.

What strategies/programs are they using?

Siloam mission is located in Winnipeg and this is where food, bed, clothing and company can be found for the less fortunate free of charge and without discrimination. There are also church services every Sunday for those who would like to join, as well as funeral services held for ones saying goodbye to their loved ones.

What evidence can be seen of their strategies effectiveness?

Because of the public and donations received, 9 people have been enrolled in school, 19 people have moved onto employment, and 66 people have moved onto housing. Because of you 395,765 meals have been served, 4,469 emergency food hampers have been given out and 38,996 emergency shelters have been used by 1,162 individuals. All of this plus more has been accomplished by everyone who has donated and/or volenteered in any way, shape or form.

How is this organization funded

Siloam Mission is filled with volunteers who are able to help serve. Siloam also receives funds through the government and accepts donations through the public.

RAY was founded in Ottawa in 1971 by Reverend Norman Johnston.

RaY is a non-profit street-level agency working with street-entrenched and homeless youth up to the age of 29. RaY is non-judgmental and non-partisan, employing a harm reduction approach to all interactions with youth in need.

What programs are they using to fulfill their mission?

They have many different programs to help these teens get back on track, they have a basic needs service which has a food bank, clothes, showers and places to do their laundry. They also have housing programs, health clinics and employment programs. They also have a street outreach program where people go out on the streets to give support and resources to the people in need.

What evidence can be seen of their effectiveness?

In 2014 alone they gave 9,240 resources to 2,690 people. They supplied 750 items of clothing, They also help the youth in many other ways. This is a anonymous quote from one of the youth that attends this program, “I love the vibes, the people and the fact that everyone is awesome. I liked the fact that they helped me mentally be able to build confidence in myself.”

How are they funded?

The people who mainly fund them are Government of Canada, Government of Manitoba, City of Winnipeg, LITE, United Way, Winnipeg Foundation. They also take in donations with food, clothes and other essential products.

You can get involved by sending in a resume to fill one of the many positions they need to fill to run this organization. They are always willing to take in any kind of donations weather it's clothes, money, vehicles or any other things they may need.
