For example with transaquatype you submerge the image in either water, alcohol or bleach.  You must use thick paper because when using regular paper it tends to dissolve, once you have your picture printed on the thick paper you can begin the process. 
The first step is to cover the picture with your chosen liquid and repeat doing so until you are happy with the outcome. The idea of this process is that you are able to see the image seep through on the other side of the paper.
