She holds a degree in Psychology from Harvard University and since 2003 has been active in several environmental and social causes, joining in 2014 the Israeli initiative Operation Human Warmth, in order to help Syrian refugees, which the actress donated clothes and money.

In addition to this the actress is also a leading advocate of microcredit in the fight against poverty, being named in 2004 an international ambassador of hope by The Fountain for International Community Assistance.

In 2007, together with the Queen of Jordan, she launched the Village Banking campaign, seeking to motivate people and raise the necessary resources to bring financial services to one million low-income families around the world by creating 100,000 banking villages.

In conclusion this actress besides her constant fight for human rights also fights for animal rights, being vegan since she was 9 years old.

In 2010, at the age of 20, she went to Bangladesh with the sustainable brand People Tree, and was faced with the cruel reality experienced by workers in the fashion sector.  For the activist, “Sustainability is the correlation between society and community, the economy and the environment”.

Since 2014, Emma Watson has been a UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador, and promotes the #HeForShe campaign, which aims to promote gender equality.

This campaign provided more than 1000 events worldwide, more than 1 million people and companies (from presidents, governments, armies and students) committed to actions to expand the fight for equality and more than 1.2 billion conversations about this theme were brought out.

Emma Watson has also joined the Times Up, which has reported cases of sexual harassment and abuse against female professionals in the entertainment industry.

Besides that, she became president of the sustainability committee of the Kering group (a company that brings together brands like Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) and an ambassador for Camfed International, a movement to educate girls in Africa.

In this way, Emma Watson marks the current generation, not only with her characteristic figure on the movie screen but also in her struggle for human rights (specially equal rights between men and women).

“I think it is right that I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf and the policies and the decisions that will affect my life. I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men, but sadly I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights, no country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality. These rights I consider to be human rights.”
