Description is when you write and give details about something. The purpose of doing this is so that the reader describes what you are talking about better. When advertising something you describe what it is you are advertising and what it does so that you can convince the audience to buy whatever it is you are advertising. It can also be useful in a story so that the reader understands the story better. If you describe the setting then the reader can imagine what is going on and makes whatever they are reading more enjoyable.
