Group 1

1. Rules are written or unwritten codes which are found in schools, workplaces and in the home. They’re subjective to the person/group creating them, their meaning may vary depending on circumstance or other variables, such as personal values and morals. Rules have high flexibility and don’t need much paperworks.

A law starts as a bill, and must go through a series of checks, considerations, and votes to become a law. Law is an obligation, highly effective and applicable to all citizens, issued by the state, has highly coercive and stable, not easily changed, only modified when necessary and effective for a long time. Law has a complex hierarchical system, such as constitutions, agreements, circulars.

3. What do you expect to gain from this course? Do you think you still hire lawyers in the future?

As a student majoring in both International Business and Business Administration, I expect to gain a strong foundational understanding of Vietnamese law through this course. I want to learn how legal systems operate in different business contexts, how contracts are formed and enforced, and how to identify legal risks in business operations. This knowledge will help me make more informed and legally sound decisions in the future, especially when dealing with transactions or negotiating with partners.

However, despite gaining legal knowledge, I still believe that I will need to hire professional lawyers in the future. Because lawyers have the expertise, practical experience, and up-to-date understanding of the law that are essential in more complex or high-risk legal matters. My legal knowledge will allow me to communicate more effectively with legal professionals and better understand their advice, but I will still rely on their specialized skills when necessary.

4. a/ First image (books and gavel):

The gavel represents authority and the power of the court or legal system.

The law books symbolize the written legal framework and the importance of studying legal texts.

Together, they emphasize the structured, formal, and authoritative nature of law.

*The gap between the law books may symbolize that:

The law is not always complete – there may be gaps or gray areas that require interpretation or future legislation.

It highlights the need for judgment, reasoning, and flexibility in applying the law to real-life situations.

Emphasis on the Gavel:

The space allows the gavel (the judge’s hammer) to stand out in front of the books.

This visually emphasizes the role of judicial authority – showing that law is not just written in books but also enforced through court decisions.

b/ Second image (Lady Justice):

•Lady Justice is a classical symbol of fairness and impartiality in the legal system.

•Her blindfold represents objectivity—justice should be delivered without bias.

•The scales symbolize the weighing of evidence.

•The sword shows that justice can be enforced and has consequences.

Group 2

First, laws are created by the government and are enforceable by the legal system. If someone breaks the law, they can be punished by fines or even prison. In contrast, rules are made by individuals or organizations, like schools or clubs, and only apply to members of those groups. Breaking a rule usually leads to smaller consequences, like a warning or being banned from an activity. Also, laws apply to everyone in society, while rules are more limited in scope. In short, laws are more formal, powerful, and wide-reaching than rules.

Law:

Criminal laws (e.g., laws against theft or murder)

Contract laws (e.g., laws governing agreements between parties)

Civil rights laws (e.g., anti-discrimination laws)

Rules:

School rules (e.g., no bullying or dress code restrictions)

Workplace rules (e.g., rules on attendance or email usage)

Sports rules (e.g., how to score points in a game or restrictions on player behavior)

Basic Legal Knowledge:
Understand the structure of the legal system, how laws are made, and how they are applied in real life.

Understanding Rights and Responsibilities:
Learn about your legal rights and duties as a citizen, employee, business owner, or consumer.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving:
You'll develop the ability to analyze legal issues, think logically, and make informed decisions.

Communication Skills:
Improve how you interpret legal language, write clear arguments, and discuss issues confidently.

Preparation for Real Life:
Gain tools to handle contracts, workplace issues, legal documents, or even help others understand the law.

However, I will still need lawyer in most cases, here are some reasons why:

Even if you understand the law, lawyers are trained experts who know the details and can represent you in complex or serious legal matters.

For contracts, lawsuits, criminal defense, business setups, or property issues, lawyers help prevent mistakes and protect your interests.

You might avoid hiring a lawyer for small matters (like reading basic agreements), but for anything serious, it's wise to get legal help, as what we learned are just basic knowledge.

Those pictures show the concepts related to law and the legal system. This inference is drawn from the presence of law books, a gavel, and the statue of Lady Justice (Justitia), which are symbolic of legal proceedings and justice. Together, these images reflect the core principles of the legal system, including fairness, authority, and the rule of law.

A gavel: In a solemn courtroom, a judge’s gavel rests atop a stack of weathered law books. The gavel symbolizes authority and decision-making, while the pile of legal tomes represents the vast body of legal knowledge. The scene evokes notions of justice, fairness, and the intricate workings of the legal system.

Statues of the goddess of justice are often created standing or sitting on a chair and are often associated with three typical symbols: a blindfold, a scale, and a sword.

– About the blindfold: It is interpreted to mean ensuring the independence, impartiality, and objectivity of the goddess of justice, not being affected or influenced by external pressure or circumstances. However, as mentioned, not all statues of the goddess of justice are blindfolded.

– About the scale: symbolizes careful and fair consideration of evidence and details of the case to make a judgment; symbolizes reason, fairness, integrity, strictness, and impartiality.

– About the sword: It symbolizes coercive power and authority and ensures that justice must be carried out. This shows that justice is not fear or unreasonable coercion but must go through a careful consideration process (by the scales), and the sword is only drawn when absolutely necessary.

Group 6:

Question 1: What are the differences between law and rules?

RULES are a set of instructions to help people live and work together. Certain rules can be established at home, school, or the workplace, and often vary depending on the person creating the rule or the conditions and circumstances. Because rules are personal in nature, the makers of rules can be flexible in establishing the consequences for breaking them. The same behavior can lead to different consequences depending on the situation and the people involved.

LAW is a set of legal rules designed to help keep order, protect property, and keep people safe. Laws are created and established by the government and hold everyone to the same standard. Unlike rules, in most cases, the consequences for breaking a law are pre-determined and do not vary based on the conditions or circumstances. The consequence for breaking a law can be a criminal conviction, penalties such as paying a fine, community service, or jail time. Also, when you break the law and are convicted, the government creates documentation of this conviction in the form of a “record” that is kept public and allows people and institutions such as employers, banks, colleges, and the armed forces to view your record at any time.

Question 3: What do you expect to gain from this course? Do you think you still hire lawyers in the future?

From this Business Law course, I expect to gain a clear understanding of the legal principles that govern business operations. I want to learn how laws affect contracts, employment, business structures, and transactions. My goal is to be able to recognize legal risks, make informed decisions, and better navigate the legal environment in a business setting. This knowledge will be valuable whether I pursue a career in International Business. I also hope to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through analyzing real-world legal cases and applying legal reasoning to business scenarios. This will help me minimize legal risks and make more informed decisions in my future career.

Although studying law helps me better understand legal principles and can solve some basic problems on my own, I will still want to hire a lawyer in complicated cases or with high legal risks. I understand that what I have learned is not everything, and a true lawyer will have deeper expertise and denser experience, so I still hire lawyers in the future. It’s important to have someone you can trust for things like contracts, disputes, or legal advice to keep the business safe.

Question 4: What can be inferred from these images?

The law books and gavel symbolize the formal structure and authority of the legal system. They represent how laws are documented, interpreted, and enforced through judicial processes.

Lady Justice is a powerful symbol of fairness. Her blindfolding shows objectivity and impartiality, the scales represent balanced judgment based on evidence, and the sword stands for the power and authority of the law to enforce justice.

=> The images emphasize that the legal system is essential for maintaining justice, order, and equality in society or the central role of law in society.
