The Korean war also known as the ¨Forgotten War¨ took place in Korea. It began on June 25th, 1950 and ended in July of 1953. The conflict was between North Korea (supported by China/USSR) and South Korea (supported by U.S., United Nations, and NATO) that became a civil war. North Korea invaded South to try to become one as they would reunite, forming one country under communism. South Korea did not agree with this idea of being a communist country and wanted to rule in a different way. According to ¨CNN¨ it says, ¨When asked to send military aid to South Korea, 16 countries sent troops and 41 sent equipment or aid. China fought on the side of North Korea, and the Soviet Union sent them military equipment¨ (CNN, 2021, para. 4). China stepped in to push back on the U.S. this took the war to a different level, where it turned it mirrored the Vietnam war but also predicted it. In the war, the weapons used to fight with were rifles, guns, flamethrowers, rocket launcher, and bombs (Ex: U.S. dropped a Mark 4 plutonium bomb on North Korea). Finally, the Korean War was the first major proxy conflict between the U.S.

In terms of war, no one actually won or took the prize of freedom as both South and North Korea split into two countries (not even a formal peace treaty was signed either). Many deaths occurred from causalities/civilians all the way to millions of deaths. In the article it says, ¨Nearly 5 million people died. More than half of these–about 10 percent of Korea’s prewar population–were civilians. (This rate of civilian casualties was higher than World War II’s and the Vietnam War’s.) Almost 40,000 Americans died in action in Korea, and more than 100,000 were wounded¨ (History.com, 2021, para. 12). North Korea was a communist country while South Korea became a democratic republican party. In the end, the war ended with no actual change in the border too. The United States its and allies did in fact succeed their goals. The primary goal was to hold the war in one area then the next goal was to prevent communism from taking place in South Korea (the ¨Domino Theory¨ was a worry) USA´s relationship with the Soviet Union (would risk to form a larger war) was torn down after the war ended which forced the U.S. and other countries to look at them differently. The war actually boosted and increased the Untied States GDP growth through gov. spending. Taxes also grew as it helped pay for the things needed to fight the war, as well as clean up the destruction too.
