         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Early History &amp; Establishment</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>Beale AFB</strong> is located near Marysville, California, and was originally established in <strong>1942</strong> as <strong>Camp Beale</strong>, a U.S. Army training site during <strong>World War II</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Named after <strong>Edward Fitzgerald Beale</strong>, a 19th-century explorer and military officer, the base covered <strong>86,000 acres</strong> and was used for <strong>infantry, armor training, and POW housing</strong>.</p></li><li><p>During WWII, <strong>German and Italian prisoners of war (POWs)</strong> were housed at Camp Beale.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Transition to an Air Force Base</strong></p><ul><li><p>After the war, Camp Beale was converted into an <strong>Air Force base in 1948</strong> when it was transferred to the newly created <strong>United States Air Force</strong>.</p></li><li><p>In <strong>1951</strong>, it became home to <strong>Beale Air Force Base</strong> and played a key role in <strong>Strategic Air Command (SAC)</strong> operations during the <strong>Cold War</strong>.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Cold War &amp; U-2 Operations</strong></p><ul><li><p>Beale AFB became a major base for <strong>strategic reconnaissance</strong> during the Cold War.</p></li><li><p>In the <strong>1960s</strong>, it was selected as a home base for the <strong>Lockheed U-2 "Dragon Lady" spy plane</strong>, a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft still in use today.</p></li><li><p>The base also housed <strong>Titan I Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs)</strong> in underground silos between <strong>1962-1965</strong> as part of America’s nuclear deterrent strategy.</p></li></ul><p><strong>SR-71 Blackbird Era</strong></p><ul><li><p>In <strong>1966</strong>, Beale AFB became the <strong>home of the SR-71 Blackbird</strong>, the fastest reconnaissance aircraft in history.
