Known for his famous novels  works One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch, Love in the Time of Cholera, Chronicle of a Death Foretold. He won the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in Mexico city on April 17 2014 at 87 years old.

Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella published in 1981, it tells the story of the murder of Santiago Nasar a young man who is thought to have taken the virginity of Angela Vicario. On her wedding night, after discovering that she was not a virgin, Angela's husband, Bayardo San Roman, returns her to her house. Angela's twin brothers, Pedro Vicario and Pablo Vicario, ask her who took her virginity, and she tells them that Santiago Nasar did. The brothers find Santiago and kill him. After that the Vicario family left the town and the twins were in jail for three years. The narrative of the story is non-linear.

When he and his wife marry because of their love for animals, they have many pets at home, including a large black cat named Pluto. The narrator prefers Plato to the other animals until due to various problems he became an alcoholic.One night the narrator came home drunk and began to think that the cat was hiding from his presence. He started chasing the cat and when he tried to grab it the cat bit him. This made him angry and angry he took out a knife, took the cat and without thinking took out one eye. From that moment on, the cat fled whenever it was found in the house.Although he feels sorry for his cruel action, one morning he takes the cat to the garden, ties it by the neck of a rope and hangs it from a tree where the poor man dies.That same night and without any cause their house burns down and the marriage has to flee from it quickly. The next day he returns to that house and, terrified, discovers among the ruins, on a wall, an image of a giant cat with a rope tied around its neck.The narrator tells the story scared and disturbed and feels very guilty about what he did to the cat. In addition, he does not find any logical explanation for everything that had happened. Days and weeks pass and the narrator finds a cat similar to Pluto in a tavern. Its size is the same, it is black and it also lacks an eye. But he has a huge spot on his chest from what he calls it a white heart.The protagonist of this tale takes him home, but begins to fear and hate the cat. In his confusion he begins to think that the white patch on the cat reflects the image of the gallows. Again he begins to avoid the cat. One day when the man and his wife were in the pantry in their new home, the cat gets under the man's feet and causes him to stumble. The narrator almost fell down the stairs and angrily grabs an ax to kill the animal. His wife stops him and out of anger kills her instead of the cat. He decides to place the body behind some bricks and plug the hole.A few days later the police arrive at the house to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his wife. By not getting any clues, they set the narrator free. But at the end a loud cry is heard, the policeman knocks down the wall and finds the corpse of the wife and above her head, already rotten, they discover the black cat.

Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, United States, on January 19, 1809, and died on October 7, 1849, in Baltimore, United States. He was an American writer, critic, journalist, and poet. He is recognized as one of the fathers of the modern tale, as well as the creator of the detective genre.
