I have my students work in "Book Clubs" where the students are able to self-select books by interests. They self-manage their time and work together to read(collaborate), make up their own schedules(critical thinking) and I also ask them reflect and respond on Padlet questions they create (communicate). The are responsible for designing their group' padlet creations as well(creativity). Students are also responsible for evaluating themselves and their peers, daily, in their book clubs.

I had my students respond on Chalk up to global questions about biotechnology. To prepare, students read articles about biotechnology to gather information. They communicate and collaborate on Chalk up (discussion board). The questions require critical thinking and creativity to help solve our food and water shortage in the world.

Working with angles we use the relationships between angles to determine the measures of the angles. Students are using critical thinking to figure out the missing measures from diagrams. Like in the diagram below students would have the measure of only one angle and they would use that measure to find all the other measures.

When students had to write a speech, we went through a writing process that concentrated heavily on brainstorming. Students had to determine which superheros fit the heroic cycle, along with fictional and "ordinary" people. They collaborated on their brainstorming and worked with their peers and independently with me to organize the essay and thesis statement.

While performing in band class, students are constantly communicating in order to stay in time and blend their sounds. While performing music, students are thinking of creative ways to adjust long notes to make them more interesting and emotional. Students collaborate by performing different parts of the music in order to create an entire piece of music. Students must use critical thinking to react musically and adjust volume, pitch, and articulation.
