Some people may think, “Racism is fixed! There’s no need to worry- its all gone.” Wrong. Even at this day in our century, racism is still a huge issue. People are being discriminated against for a variety of different reasons but the largest ones seem to target people of different skin colors and beliefs. Many darker skinned people don’t feel welcome in white populated areas and its absurd that there hasn’t been much action trying to resolve this conflict. Another consistent activity the occurs is the opinionated comments made towards colored people used to judge, insult, or threat. In addition, not one conception is correct and both feel under attack. Officials conducted a poll and presented it to Americans and the results displayed two different sides to the one account. Around 60% of the Americans said racism remained a major problem and thought it required immediate attention while the other 40% acknowledged its existence but stated that it didn’t affect their daily lives. “The impacts racism leaves are mostly negative and it’s global issue has only increased” according to CNN.

Racism has very little positive products on our nation, but it has impacted our society by influencing us to be more open minded and aware of current issues and ways we can take action. Racism has left this impression because it’s alterations have transformed many people to engage in events in order to help cease the issue but to to also include everybody and make sure people are attentive and informed regarding this topic. On a more solemn note, a news article was published recently informing me about a recent viral video featuring two women, one white and one with darker skin. The white woman was shopping and overheard the others telephone conversation and assumed based on body language that she was planning to conduct an illegal operation. The white woman became frightened and insulted the darker woman and called the police to notifying them. The black woman was asked questions and escorted out of the supermarket. This particular illustration demonstrates the mistrust directed specifically towards people of darker skin. But that’s not always the case. In 2012 an Iraqi-American woman was murdered and racism was the suspected culprit. But even before that many hate crimes occurred. In 2005 a study by the U.S. Department of Justice estimated there are about 191,000 hate crimes incidents per year.

In the early 1950s, the Jim Crow laws acknowledged that since white people had classes and rankings, citizens who abided by these laws were afraid that black people would find themselves more superior and overrule the white majority. Even today, we can observe similar operations caused by vibes along those same lines. In addition, a recent survey conducted by the Washington Post questioned if people would feel neutral, against, or welcoming towards having people of other races as neighbors. The top 25 racist countries according to the results had high percentages. The first most racist country was India with 46.3% of people saying they were opposed to living within capacity of a person with a darker colored skin or race. Reflecting off this survey, many countries are experiencing harsh racism and its spreading and growing more rapidly every day instead of minimizing. In fact, a graph paired with an article surrounding racism in America displays the attention provided towards racism. In 2011, 8% of respondents said that racism wasn’t a problem whatsoever while 16% said it was a “small issue”. This is an issue because if people are unaware of the actual damage caused by racism then they won’t know to take action and will be unable to help improve this problem that is hurting many innocent people.

During Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, he proposed building a wall separating America from Mexico. Though this alone was controversial and caused commotion on sides agreeing and disagreeing with his remark, he also promoted that Mexico’s government was going to have to pay for the construction of it. Racism was a big influence on this action, and was reflected during the process on the announcement. After the publication of the wall, the hashtag “Build this Wall” began going viral on Twitter which lead to more issues. Many public citizens and representatives were against the statement Trump made to literally build a wall in order to disapprove and discourage the entrance of Mexican immigrants because it was unnecessary and would result in America being a publicly named controversial country. In order to cease major racism acts, there are many websites, podcasts, and news networks that voice solutions. They provide small acts that can help decrease the bigger problem spanning over the whole world. A couple examples would be too minimize the spreading and encouraging of racist or stereotypical jokes, fully learn and comprehend the cultures before making assumptions and depressing them, and to act as a role model to others who might be a culprit of committing some of the performances listed above.

Dear Diary,

Today on the news there was a story about a hate crime. From what I translated out of the speech, a white man shot a little black girl in a drive by. Isn’t that awful? I was bored this weekend and decided to research some more information about hate crimes. I found a lot, which was helpful in my case but frightening and scary for others. Even though I feel safe and not as vulnerable to accidents like that, there’s not a guaranteed security on my life. I could be just as available as any other person. In fact, during my search I found that many black on black incidents occur just as often. It’s not purely white on black. But many variations could be just a frequent, it could be asian on white, black on muslim and thousands more combinations. I hope that all my family and loved ones are protected from these currumptions and I do wish that they end for good because they are hurtful and only cause more trouble.

							-Rachael
