I've started to read The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. The story take place in Tennessee depicting the life of 3 teenagers who are trying to make it through their last year of high school. Our characters are Dillard, Lydia and Travis best friends who come from different backgrounds all going through their own struggles. The reason I choose to read this book was because of the way the author started the story. I was very captivated by how she introduced us to the main character by stating their emotions and thought. What I like most about the book is how we are able to see what each character is going through and how they all live different lives and because of those differences they are able to connect with one another. This book is sort of different from most of the books I read. I usually tend to read dystopian novels more than any other genre, in this case The Serpent King is a fiction book. So far in this book my favorite character is Lydia I’m able to connect a lot with her she lives a life where her parents expect her to live the life they have planned with her but she doesn’t want to. I can relate because my parents are always trying to control my life when I already have different plans. So far I’m really enjoying this book and can’t wait for what is to come in the next chapters and how our characters will confront their struggles.

Currently in my book I feel very surprised because of the information recently revealed about the lives of Travis and Dill. Travis seems like a very introvert person he’s very quiet and obeying when around people but with friends he’s outgoing and himself. I feel the reason for this is because of Travis dad, who is very controlling and seems to have anger issues which we learn he’s always had. Lydia is the opposite of Travis she’s outgoing and confident, she’s someone who won’t let anyone bring her down. She’s also very caring wanting the best for Dillard and Travis, she urges Dillard to focus on school so that he will be able to live a better lifestyle. Dillard is different from both, he doesn’t express himself and emotions even to his friends. We get to learn that he’s always been seen differently because of his parent’s past and of the things they did. He’s also always been expected to live the life his parents want to and because of this he’s very quiet and secretive. I’m really liking how the author gives us background information of the lives of the character’s parent. I think that them being different really helps them connect with one another more and have a very strong bond. I’m really hoping to get a bit of drama in the book to test the strength of their friendship. Also I really hope that Lydia doesn’t decided to leave Travis and Dillard to go to New York.

In the past, few chapters I really see a character development with Dill. He has become more open and has stood up for his self even stood up to his greatest fear his dad. I was very shocked with Dill’s mom because I had believed she a very nice and sweet person who stood by her husband’s side even after the horrible things said about him. But during these last few chapters she was whole different person I was very confused on her actions because she was being very rude with dill and was accusing him on everything that was happening to them. She was also blaming him for being the reason his dad was put in jail and that really annoyed me because she can’t be blaming him for the action that someone else committed. I feel bad for Dill because he must be thinking that everyone blames him for everything and that he isn’t good enough to do anything. One person who I really enjoyed during this call was Lydia’s dad Dr. Blankenship because he was there with Dill and he was able to connect one on one with Dill giving him advice on life and how to handle his problems. I also appreciate Lydia because she seemed very stuck-up at the beginning but we got to see the real her the kind and caring person, she even got Travis’s favorite author to visit him. This was very kind of her because she knew how much he looked up to this author.

This few chapter have really killed me, I have never been more emotional in my life, the book made me into an emotional wreck. The moment I had been waiting for, had finally happened, which now that It did I regret it because I really wanted there to be a point where there was finally drama and everyone realized all the wrong they had been doing. This exactly but for all of this to happen it had a prince which was too much. At first, I was really happy because Dill and Lydia had finally made up after their huge fight, which I believed was actually necessary to happen because it made them closer and open up about how they felt. Dill finally told Lydia how he felt about her leaving for college and Lydia finally told Dill that he should start doing something in life. I really agree with Lydia because dill never seems to care about what’s good for him but what’s good for the people around him. Which is not bad but I feel as though him not pushing himself to do something great with his life.

Spoiler

Everything finally seem to go great but then the worst happened one of the main characters died, Travis which really broke my heart because he didn’t deserve that he was finally having a great life away from his family and starting to pursue his dreams of righting. I was really angry because the people killed him because of money which is very dumb like go work and earn that money just like Travis did and he gave you the money there was no need to shot him. What happened next really broke my heart, dill and Lydia were on their way to talk with Travis when they found out the news. Their thoughts really made me sad because they couldn’t believe their friend was dead. I’m really hoping for the criminals to be caught and put in jail.

I have finally finished The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner, the book overall was great. If I had to rate it I would give It a 4 out of 5 stars, I admit that the book was good but at some points it was a bit boring. Also, another thing which confused me was the way the book title related with the actual book. Although the topic of who the serpent king was, it really didn’t seem relevant to the story, the title made me believe the story was going to be about something different. Something which I really enjoyed were the characters, they all were different in their own way but somehow, they managed to be one with one another. Although I had really wished somethings would have turned out differently, such as what happened to Travis, it was still a good book. This book is very different from the books I usually read, I tend to read dystopian books so reading this book was kind of different. I wouldn’t really change anything from the story because even though some moments were sad and I wished they didn’t happen it all truly happened for a reason. I really loved the story overall because it showed that you can get through things even when you believe you aren’t capable to. And that the people who truly care for you are the ones who will always be there for you through thick and thin. I’m glad I read this book and would really recommend this to everyone.

Remarkable Creatures

I have started a new book called Remarkable Creatures by Sean B Carroll. So far, the book is really interesting, the book is about the journeys of different scientist who contributed with the theory of evolution. The book also discusses the topic of survival of the fittest which is that organisms change and adapt to their environment for the need of survival. The author also talks about the obstacles each person went through due to the fact that many didn’t believe of want to believe in anything they were researching. I believe the reason for this is because they were scared of this new information because they had always believed in one thing which is that things were made just because. People are always afraid of new things and for this reason they have trouble adjusting to these things. A big person in this book is Charles Darwin who was the one that actually came up with the theory of evolution. I really like this book because I get to know more about the world I live in and the reason for why things are the way they are. It also lets me realize that we shouldn’t let anyone get in the way of your goals and dreams because you are the one in control of your life. I also really enjoy how the book includes pictures because it helps to add more to each story. Each scientist demonstrates that with preservice you can truly face anything that you want.

This week I’m currently reading 2 books, Remarkable Creatures and Milk and Honey. Remarkable creatures are still very interesting, it’s amazes me how much these scientist discovered and all they went through for something they weren’t sure of. The currently the book is talking about Charles Darwin and his discovery on the theory of evolution with the help of Alfred Russell Wallace. I’m also surprised of the affects each of these scientists had on each other, thanks to one another they managed to continue with their exploring. I couldn’t imagine going to through what each one of them went through out in the wildness for however long they had to and not knowing if they would find any proof to support their theories.

I just began reading Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur and so far, it’s amazing, it’s by far one of the best books I have read. I really enjoy how the author had different sections which had different topics but they all related to one another. There was so many emotions in the book and each one was very relatable. This book is different than most books that read, I usually don’t read poem books because they tend to be a bit confusing and you usually have to think in depth. Each poem is different and convey different stories that leave you feeling many emotions. The stories seem to connect back to love and the different stages you could go through with different people in life. You see the affects they have on others and the different ways people deal with it.

So I have decided to take a break from remarkable creatures. I have taken interest in a book called Noggin by John Corey Whaley. I usually never read books like this, at first it wasn’t interesting but I decided to give the book another chance. This book actually wasn’t very eye catching, the cover was very strange to me. I started to read the book and I was caught right away. The book revolves around our main character, Travis Coates, who woke up with a different body. He has to deal with this new body and his new life, after being asleep for 5 years. I love how the author incorporates past scenes to show how the character got to where he is and how he includes the character’s parents thought. I kind of wish that the author included more of a back story and talked about the character’s condition not just the events that happened before the character falling asleep. So far though the story is very interesting and I’m really hoping that the character is able to adjust to his new life. The only probably is that I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be harder than I think. He has been asleep for 5 years that’s a very long time and people can change a lot. Also, him living in someone else’s body is going to be hard to adjust and people might have bad reactions towards him. The last thing which left me kind of shocked me was the whole procedure of him changing bodies with some else.

I’m currently reading Noggin and to be honest it is very interesting, like I’m actually enjoying the book very much. I usually don’t read these types of books, which is in a guy’s prospective. Most of the books which I read, are in a girl’s prospective because of the fact that I feel as though they are easier to relate to, but if I’m being honest this book is pretty relatable too. So far in the book Travis is finally adjusting to his new life and body, he just started school again and doesn’t seem to be having a hard time adjusting. The only problem is that he still trying to face the fact that while his life was paused (due to him being in a coma type thing) everyone was still continuing to live life. I really enjoy the main character because he is funny and is able to take control of his situation. I also got a very weird feeling from Travis’s parents because in the book they seem to be dealing with this whole situation differently then what you would think. Like usually you would imagine that parents would be worried about there soon and be glad that their sons are back and alive, but instead they seem to be acting as though nothing ever happened. Something that I think will be a problem in the book soon is when Travis goes and confronts his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend (dating when he was in that coma) because of the fact that she is getting married.

I’m currently reading two books, Noggin and Perfect Chemistry. So far in Noggin, Travis finally had the courage to confront his ex-girlfriend after everything which has happened. The only problem is that she wasn’t around anymore because she moved in with her new fiancé. I feel as though Travis believes that if he talks again with her then she would go back to him. He’s trying to bring feeling back which are gone on her side. I think he just needs to move on because if he doesn’t then he’s just holding onto the and won’t be able to move forward with his new life. Moving on to Perfect Chemistry, which I just started reading this week and I’m really enjoying it. This book is like almost every other book which I have read, very romantic and girly. It’s the basic teen novel, with the bad boy and the perfect and innocent girl. Already from the start, our two main characters Alex Fuentes, the bad boy who is in a gang and Brittany Ellis, miss everything and the popular girl, already don’t like each other. From this I already can see a relationship growing from this it’s the classic love story. They are so different from one another but what they know is that they are so similar because they are lying about who they truly are. I feel that the reason for them being like this is because it benefits them, Alex wants to be feared by everyone while Brittany wants everyone to like her. I really hope that they soon they realize how much they are alike and bring out the best of each other.

I just started to read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han which I have been dying to read for a while. I would always see it, but I never really had the urge to read it until I watched the movie which was good. So that’s why I decided to start reading the book and I have to say that so far, it’s good. There is a lot more that has happened in the beginning we are introduced to our main character Lara Jean and the infamous letters. Which is the main problem through out the whole book. At the beginning of the book Lara Jean starts off by talking about how after the dead of their mother her older sister basically took her place. She also talks about her letters who’s she has written for everyone boy she loved and even included her sister’s boyfriend. Now I know what happens but still there is so much that the book tells me, and I get to see more of what happens when her letters are sent. I so far don’t like Margot like yes, she is very responsible, but she doesn’t really show any emotions which kind of bothers me. On the other hand, I really loved Lara Jeans character she is very easy to relate to especially when it comes to how she feels. I also love how close her family is like even after the tragic death of their mother she and her family were able to continue and work together as a family.

I’m still reading To All the Boys I Have Loved Before, and it just keeps getting better and better. So far, the book has been focusing on Josh, Lara Jeans most recent crush. Lara Jean continues to be by far the best character in the book, she is such a deep character and her emotions are so real. We also got introduced to another important character, Peter Kavinsky. Something which was surprising to me was the way Lara Jean meet Peter. In the movie she almost ran Peter over but, in the book, she meets him after being in an accident. In the book he already seems to a real good guy and seems to very kind, also what kind of surprised me was that they had already been friend when they were younger, but they never talked. Another thing was another character being introduced which was Genevie. All we hear about her was how her and Lara Jean used to be friends but then she started to hang out with the older kids and just left Lara Jean behind. I can already feel that she is going to be big trouble later in the book especially due to the fact that she is dating Peter and Lara Jean has some soft of crush on Peter. I hope to see more of Peter and that some how Genevie and Lara Jean Become friends again. I really hope that she also starts talking with Josh again and everything goes back to normal.

I just started reading a new book for the new year and I am really enjoying it so far. This book was recommended to me by my friends and even one of my teachers. At first, I didn’t really see what was so great about the book, so I decided to figure out why everyone loved it so much. So far, I don’t regret reading this book, the book which I am currently reading is My Sister’s Keeper. I have to say that so far this by far the best book which I have read through out this whole school year, and I’m not even that far into the book yet. I really like how the author has set up the book, having multiple perspectives, which allows me to understand every character’s point of view. I feel as though when you have more character’s perspectives then you really get to see the whole complete story instead of just one’s person perspective and you only seeing one side of the story. Now there is one person who is more of the main character, Anna and the story basically revolves around her trying to basically gain freedom to her body, but throughout the story you uncover her motives for this. Now i understand why this is important for her, gaining her rights, but I find it hard to understand why she just can’t talk things out with her family. I think that’s the whole point of this story is that communication is important, and everyone should be heard out and be included. I hope to see character development to Anna.
