Springfield from what I searched up is a place in America that has high crime. From what I know Rashad is an ordinary kid, which makes me believe he is well economically.
For Springfield to be high on crime it makes me believe that most of the cops think that most all black people cause crime which is why Rahad got beat up by the cop , which is wrong of the cop to do.

When Rashad ended up in the hospital he had to defend himself from his own dad, the social media storm, over time within the book he grew as a person and ended up growing more awareness and inner strength and is proud to fight against police brutality. This impacts the plot by seeing Rashad grow from a kid that minded his own business and loved hanging out with friends to fight for justice on police brutality after he got the injustice from the police.
The officer that beat up Rashad was Officer Galluzo (Friday Quinn) who was someone Quinn knew at the time, which left Quinn Stunned seeing someone he knew beat up a class mate of his.
