Whenever a new building or road is built the map should update. Maps don’t always update immediately therefor you don’t know where to go. In conclusion u can’t always trust maps because they aren’t always 100% correct.

The appearance of a map plays a crucial role in how effectively it communicates geographic information. A well-designed map not only conveys spatial relationships but also helps the user to interpret data quickly and accurately. Elements like color, scale, and symbols directly influence how easily people can understand the layout and context of the area being depicted. For example, the use of contrasting colors can highlight important features like roads or water bodies, while clear, consistent symbols for landmarks and points of interest make the map more intuitive to read. Without these visual cues, a map would be a confusing jumble of information.

The visual design of a map also affects its accessibility and user-friendliness. Different audiences have different needs, and the way a map looks can tailor it to specific purposes. A city map might focus on urban infrastructure and landmarks, while a topographic map may emphasize elevation and natural features. The aesthetics of a map, including its layout and clarity, can guide users to find the information they need quickly, whether they are travelers navigating unfamiliar terrain, scientists interpreting geographical data, or educators teaching about a region. For instance, maps with legible fonts and clear demarcations reduce cognitive load and make navigation smoother.

They should change every as some countries may get invaded or become corrupted and not be a country anymore.

Ahmad Maher Nabil Alsamhouri 6B

Paragraph 1: The Art of Being Accurate

The core successful map lies in the accuracy of its data. A map's primary function is to provide a reliable representation of the world, showing/guiding people familiar places. To fulfill this purpose, I must prioritize the collection and integration of precise geographic information. This highly involves gathering data on the positions of landmasses, bodies of water, and other significant features. By using technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, I can ensure that the map's structure of the world is as close to real life as possible.

Paragraph 2: The Art of Scale and Projection

Beyond good accuracy, a well-crafted map must also effectively contain correct-size relationships and distances. This is achieved through the careful selection of a suitable map projection, a mathematical method used to transform the 3D surface of the Earth onto a 2D map/paper. Different maps are designed to show specific details of the globe, such as keeping area, shape, and direction. Cartographers must carefully consider the intended purpose of the map and choose a projection that best shows that purpose. Additionally, the correct scale must be determined to balance detail and overall coverage. A map that is too large-scale may be overwhelming, while one that is too small-scale may lack useful/essential information.

Paragraph 3: The Art of Visual Communication

A visually appealing and informative map is more than just a collection of lines and symbols. It is a powerful tool for communicating complex geographic information. By using a good color choice, clear labeling, and effective use of cartographic symbols, cartographers can make the map's readability and overall impact better. The design of the map should be guided by the visual hierarchy, ensuring that the most important features are easily understood. Furthermore, the inclusion of additional layers of information, such as population density, climate patterns, or historical events, can provide valuable context and deepen the user's understanding of the mapped area.

Being a cartographer whose work involves the creation of world maps, it is apparent that the most factor to consider during this process is the accuracy of geographical relationships. This is the knowledge of the actual sizes and shapes of various continents, as well as the models displaying the precise boundaries of the continents and countries. However, appreciating that the choice of a globe form is given, it will not be without its history, some of which distort the world in some way. For instance, a Mercator map will definitely look distorted particularly at the polar ends while a Gall-Peters map does a much more honest representation in spacing.

Just as important is beautifying of the map by adding some features other than the ease feature of land or areas. More so on how much of the land or seas in this planet happens with so much ease and the incidences where people settle and the evolutionary changes shift. These are factors of concern that ought to be presented too in an appropriate order and exactness.

I would also need to consider political boundaries, as these shape global affairs. However, I must not overstate these boundaries at the expense of the physiography component of the landscape. More so, a creation of a map will pursue a blend of physical and human geography.

Another significant issue is the map’s scale, as in what exactly is expected of it or how remarkable the detail is required. In the case of a world, map striking the balance between an overall appreciation of the world and the capability to concentrate on particular places is crucial. The delineation of longitude and latitude lines is extremely important in finding one’s bearing on the surface.

To comprehend the uses of color, symbols, and lines in the map, some kind of a clear, educational key or legend would necessarily be needed. Keeping the color schemes or the symbols or the entire design of the map consistent helps maintain the focus and readability of the map. Lastly, the map will be designed such that it will have to allow for changes in the future such as political change of boundary, or emergence of new areas.

In the vast wilderness where the sea met the sky, and the wind whispered secrets to the trees, there existed a kingdom long forgotten by history. The people of this kingdom had lived in harmony with nature, each soul bound to the land they cherished and the sea they revered. But as centuries passed, the kingdom faded from memory, hidden in the folds of time like an ancient myth whispered only in forgotten languages.

The kingdom’s name was Valdore, and it was ruled by a wise and just king, Eldric the Eternal. His rule spanned centuries, and though time seemed to touch him not, he was not immortal. Eldric was a ruler who understood the delicate balance between the human spirit and the forces of nature. His court was filled with scholars, mages, and sages who all worked together to maintain that balance.

But one fateful day, a stranger appeared at the gates of Valdore—a tall figure cloaked in shadow, whose face was hidden beneath a hood. His presence was not like the others; it exuded an aura of ancient power, and when he spoke, the air itself seemed to shudder.

“I seek the Heart of the Kingdom,” the stranger announced, his voice low and resonant.

The Heart of the Kingdom was a legend, an artifact of great power said to hold the essence of the kingdom’s life force. It was said that whoever controlled the Heart would control the fate of the land itself. Eldric, though wise, did not recognize the stranger, and his presence filled the king with unease.

“You seek that which does not belong to you,” Eldric said firmly. “Leave now, and the peace of Valdore will remain intact.”

But the stranger only smiled, a cold, unnerving grin. “The peace of Valdore has already been shattered, King Eldric. You just do not know it yet.”

With those words, the stranger vanished into the night, and a strange malaise spread over the kingdom. The crops began to wither, the sea grew turbulent, and storms raged across the skies. It was as though the very heartbeat of Valdore had been severed.

Days turned into weeks, and still, the kingdom withered. Eldric gathered his court in desperation, seeking answers, but none could provide a solution. Then, a wise old sage named Ilyana spoke.

“The stranger you encountered was no mere mortal,” she said, her voice trembling. “He is an ancient being, a spirit of chaos, who seeks to unleash the Heart’s power for his own dark purposes.”

Eldric was resolute. “Then we must stop him, before Valdore falls to ruin.”

Ilyana nodded gravely. “The Heart of the Kingdom is hidden deep beneath the Temple of the Sea, where the waters churn and the earth trembles. Only those pure of heart can reach it, and even then, they must face trials that will test their very souls.”

Eldric knew that he alone could not defeat this malevolent force. He gathered a group of his bravest warriors, scholars, and mages, among them the young and talented Serena, a skilled archer with unmatched aim, and Darius, a mage who could bend the elements to his will. Together, they set forth on a journey that would take them to the very edge of the world, to a place where no mortal had ventured in millennia.

As they traveled through forests filled with ancient trees that whispered forgotten secrets and over mountains that touched the heavens, they encountered strange creatures—some benevolent, some monstrous, all part of the intricate balance that Eldric had worked to protect. Along the way, Serena’s sharp eyes spotted hidden dangers in the shadows, while Darius’s magic calmed the fury of storms and controlled the wildfires that threatened to consume them.

Days turned into weeks, and the group began to grow weary. But their spirits remained unbroken, for they knew their mission was vital to the survival of their world. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they arrived at the Temple of the Sea—a massive structure built into the side of a cliff, where the ocean crashed violently below.

The temple was ancient, its walls covered in inscriptions that seemed to pulse with energy. The air was thick with salt and mystery, and the winds howled as if warning them to turn back. But Eldric pressed forward, his determination unwavering.

Inside the temple, the air grew heavy with a dark presence. The walls seemed to close in on them as they descended deeper into the earth. At the heart of the temple, they found the Chamber of the Heart—a vast underground cavern where the Heart of the Kingdom lay upon an altar of stone, glowing with a soft, ethereal light.

But they were not alone.

The stranger, the spirit of chaos, stood before the Heart, his form now fully revealed. He was no longer cloaked in shadow, but instead radiated an aura of darkness that seemed to distort reality itself. His eyes burned with the intensity of a thousand storms.

“You have come for the Heart,” the stranger said, his voice like the crackling of thunder. “But it is already too late. Valdore has fallen. Its life force is mine to command.”

Eldric stepped forward, his hand on the hilt of his sword. “You will not have it, dark one.”

The stranger’s laughter echoed through the cavern. “You think you can stop me? I have already begun the process of unraveling the very fabric of your kingdom. Soon, all will be chaos, and there will be no one left to remember Valdore.”

The ground beneath them trembled, and the sea surged violently against the cliffs. The Heart of the Kingdom began to pulse faster, its light flickering like a dying flame.

But Eldric would not yield. He raised his sword, and with a single, powerful strike, he severed the dark presence that held the Heart captive. The cavern shook with the force of the blow, and the stranger let out a scream of rage.

In that moment, the Heart of the Kingdom began to glow with a brilliant, blinding light. The walls of the temple cracked and crumbled as the darkness that had tainted Valdore began to dissipate.

But the cost was great. As the light of the Heart washed over them, Eldric felt his strength drain away. He fell to his knees, his life force tethered to the Heart that was now beginning to return to its rightful place.

Serena and Darius rushed to his side, but Eldric smiled weakly. “The kingdom will survive,” he whispered. “Valdore’s legacy will live on, and its people will remember the balance we fought to protect.”

And with that, the Heart of the Kingdom, now restored, returned to its slumber deep beneath the waves. The stranger, the spirit of chaos, vanished into nothingness, his dark influence shattered by the power of the Heart.

Valdore, though scarred, began to heal. The crops flourished once more, the seas grew calm, and the skies cleared. The people of Valdore rejoiced, knowing that they had been saved from the brink of destruction. But they also remembered the sacrifices that had been made, and the lessons learned.

Eldric, though no longer eternal, was remembered as the king who had given everything to protect his kingdom. His legacy lived on in the stories passed down from generation to generation, in the songs sung by the people, and in the hearts of those who carried the torch

Second of all they cant express. Third of all they are speical to the map world .

If I were making a new world map, the most important thing to get right would be how to show the round Earth on a flat surface. The Earth is round, but maps are flat, so we have to change things to make them fit. These changes cause distortions, which means things like size or shape might not be shown correctly.

When making a map, it’s important to pick the right type for what you want to do. For example, if the map is for finding directions, you’d want to keep those directions accurate. My world is good for this, but it makes places near the poles look much bigger than they really are. If the map needs to show the true size of countries, you’d use a projection that keeps areas nice and clean

If the map is just for general use, a balanced projection like the my map might be best. It tries to reduce the distortions of both shape and size. The type of map you choose depends on who will use it. If it's for studying the world’s size, area might be more important. If it's for learning about shapes or countries, that might matter more.

Maps also change how people see the world. For example, the normal map makes Canada and Russia look much bigger than they are. This can affect how people think about those countries. In the end, the projection you pick is the most important thing to get right. It affects how the map works and how people understand the world.

Mohammad Aljabrah

I would make changes to it every once and a while. I would make a lot of research before I make the world map. I chose this because I think it is really important for a world map to have the exact and proper location of a place. I also will ask people who have made world maps before for help. I dedicate my life to this so no one is confused. It is important to know that not all maps are accurate. For example in 2018 a war stared because of google maps it did not have the right bodres. some maps may lead people to be mislead. Maps are crucial for search teams, police, firefighters and taxies. communicate complex information, identify patterns and trends, make informed decisions, and better understand the world around us. and rember kids square maps are not aqrite.

In the 21st century, technology has become an integral part of everyday life, driving not only economic growth but also influencing culture, relationships, and individual lives in profound ways. From the development of the wheel to the rise of artificial intelligence, technological advancements have shaped the trajectory of human civilization. As we continue to innovate, the impact of technology on society has become a subject of significant debate, with various viewpoints emerging on how these changes affect individuals, communities, and the world at large. This essay explores the multifaceted effects of technology, both positive and negative, on society, examining its influence on communication, work, education, and even ethical considerations.

Historical Context of Technological Advancements

To understand the extent of technology's impact today, it is essential to look at its history. The Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries marked the beginning of a major transformation in human society. It brought about advancements such as the steam engine, mechanized farming, and mass production techniques. These innovations significantly improved productivity, which led to urbanization and a rise in global trade. Over time, new technologies such as electricity, telecommunications, and transportation reshaped daily life, making the world more interconnected and efficient.

Fast forward to the 20th century, and the advent of the computer revolutionized almost every aspect of life. The development of the internet in the 1990s further accelerated societal changes by introducing a new era of information access, digital communication, and e-commerce. The rise of personal devices such as smartphones and tablets, coupled with the growth of social media platforms, has redefined how people interact with one another and how businesses operate. These changes continue to evolve rapidly, with artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy promising to shape the future of human society in unprecedented ways.

The Role of Technology in Communication

One of the most profound impacts of technology on society is its role in communication. Before the digital age, communication was limited to face-to-face interaction, postal services, and telegraphs. The introduction of the telephone in the late 19th century was a game changer, allowing people to communicate over long distances in real time. The advent of the internet further expanded these possibilities, making instant communication with anyone across the globe a reality.

Today, technologies such as smartphones, social media platforms, and instant messaging applications have transformed how people connect. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok allow users to maintain relationships, share ideas, and create communities, regardless of geographic location. This has democratized access to information and allowed marginalized voices to gain visibility. However, these technologies have also introduced challenges, such as misinformation, cyberbullying, and privacy concerns, which have prompted debates about regulation and accountability.

Furthermore, the shift to remote work, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighted the role of technology in facilitating communication in professional settings. Tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack have allowed businesses to continue functioning during lockdowns, but this has also led to concerns about employee isolation, work-life balance, and the erosion of personal interaction in the workplace.

Technological Influence on Work and Economy

Technology has fundamentally changed the landscape of work and the global economy. Automation, artificial intelligence, and robotics have made many manual labor jobs obsolete, while simultaneously creating new opportunities in fields like software development, data analysis, and digital marketing. The gig economy, facilitated by platforms like Uber, Airbnb, and Fiverr, has redefined traditional employment models, allowing individuals to earn income through short-term, flexible contracts.

On the one hand, technology has led to increased productivity, reduced costs, and the creation of high-paying jobs in industries such as tech, finance, and healthcare. The rise of e-commerce platforms like Amazon has also led to the globalization of trade, providing consumers with access to goods from all over the world at competitive prices.

However, these advancements have also raised concerns about job displacement and income inequality. Automation in manufacturing and agriculture, for example, has led to the loss of jobs that once sustained entire communities. While new jobs have emerged in technology and service sectors, there is growing concern that many workers lack the skills required to transition into these roles. This has prompted discussions about the need for retraining programs, universal basic income, and other policies to mitigate the negative effects of technological disruption on the workforce.

Education and the Digital Divide

Education is another area that has been significantly impacted by technology. The availability of online resources, digital textbooks, and learning management systems has made education more accessible and flexible than ever before. Students from diverse backgrounds can now access quality educational content through platforms such as Khan Academy, Coursera, and edX, often for free or at a low cost.

Technology has also facilitated remote learning, which became especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools and universities worldwide were forced to adapt to online instruction, leading to a surge in the use of video conferencing, virtual classrooms, and digital assessments. This shift has sparked a conversation about the future of education, with many arguing that the integration of technology into the classroom is essential for preparing students for the demands of the digital economy.

However, the digital divide—disparities in access to technology—remains a significant challenge. In many parts of the world, students lack the necessary devices or reliable internet connections to participate in online learning, exacerbating existing inequalities. In the United States, for example, millions of students from low-income families were unable to participate in remote learning during the pandemic, leading to concerns about widening educational gaps. Addressing the digital divide is critical to ensuring that technological advancements in education benefit all members of society.

Ethical and Societal Implications of Technology

As technology continues to advance, it raises complex ethical questions that society must address. One of the most pressing concerns is the issue of privacy. With the proliferation of digital data, individuals’ personal information is often collected, stored, and shared without their explicit consent. Companies track users' online behavior to create targeted advertisements, while governments use technology for surveillance purposes. This has led to calls for stronger data protection laws and more transparency about how personal data is used.

Artificial intelligence (AI) presents another ethical dilemma. AI systems are increasingly being used in decision-making processes, from hiring to law enforcement. While these systems can improve efficiency and reduce human bias, there are concerns about their transparency, accountability, and the potential for perpetuating discriminatory practices. For example, AI algorithms used in predictive policing have been criticized for disproportionately targeting minority communities. Ensuring that AI is developed and implemented responsibly is critical to preventing these technologies from exacerbating social inequalities.

Moreover, the rise of biotechnology and genetic engineering raises fundamental questions about human nature and ethics. Advances in gene editing, such as CRISPR, offer the possibility of eliminating genetic diseases, but they also raise concerns about "designer babies," eugenics, and the potential for unforeseen consequences. As with AI, the development of biotechnology requires careful regulation and oversight to ensure it is used responsibly and ethically.

The Future of Technology and Society

Looking ahead, the future of technology holds both tremendous potential and significant challenges. Advancements in fields such as quantum computing, 5G, and biotechnology could revolutionize industries and improve quality of life, from solving complex global challenges like climate change to eradicating diseases. However, these advancements also raise concerns about privacy, security, and ethical boundaries.

The continued evolution of AI, for instance, poses the question of whether machines could surpass human intelligence, leading to what some experts call the "

Maps could also help us how the structure developed and how they were made, And there are many structures to know how they were made for example Statue of Liberty.

I hope this helped you by learning how to use maps and what to do if you become a photographer.

I would think about how the land connects, where the rivers flow, and where the mountains are high and the valleys are low. It would be like building a world with Lego blocks—everything needs to fit together in a way that makes sense. I’d want my map to show where different animals live too, so people could know where to find lions, pandas, or maybe even dinosaurs if I was feeling creative! The shape of the continents and the way the islands sit in the ocean would be really important. It would feel like you could step into the world I created and explore it for yourself.

Finally, I would want my map to help people understand how the world changes over time. Just like how the weather can change from sunny to rainy, places on the map can change too. I could show things like how cities grow, or how forests might get bigger or smaller. This would be especially important for people who want to help take care of the Earth. It’s like if you had a garden and you needed to know which parts of the land needed more water or sunshine. My map would be like a guide to help protect and care for the world we live in!

Creating a new world map as a cartographer involves more than just drawing lines and placing countries. It’s about representing the complexities of the world accurately, both geographically and culturally. The most important thing to get right would be the projection and scale, as these two elements fundamentally shape how people perceive and interact with the map.

1. Projection:

A map projection is the method by which the curved surface of the Earth is represented on a flat surface. There are countless types of projections, each with its strengths and weaknesses. For example, the Mercator projection, one of the most commonly used, distorts the size of landmasses, especially near the poles, making countries like Greenland appear much larger than they actually are relative to countries near the equator. This distortion can reinforce misconceptions about the size of nations and continents, which is why it’s important to choose a projection that balances accuracy with purpose.

If your map is designed for general navigation, you might opt for a conformal projection like the Mercator, which preserves angles and shapes. However, if your goal is to represent landmass size and relative areas more fairly, you might use something like the Gall-Peters projection, which gives a more accurate sense of the true size of continents, especially in higher latitudes. A modern approach might involve creating interactive digital maps that allow users to adjust the projection to see different perspectives and minimize distortions.

2. Scale:

Scale refers to the relationship between the distance on the map and the actual distance in the real world. It's crucial to decide how much of the Earth's surface to show, and how to balance detail with comprehensiveness. For example, if you're creating a map of the entire world, you must decide how much detail to include for regions that are far from one another. This often leads to a trade-off between clarity and comprehensiveness.

If the map is too zoomed out, you may lose significant detail on smaller countries or regions. If it’s too zoomed in, the map might not offer a global perspective, and people could miss the relationships between continents, oceans, and countries. This is why most world maps balance the level of detail for easy navigation while keeping the geographic relationships intact.

3. Cultural and Historical Accuracy:

While the geographic aspects of the map are vital, the cultural and political contexts are just as important. A map can’t simply be about physical features like mountains and rivers; it must also reflect the historical, political, and cultural divisions that shape how the world is understood. For example, how countries are drawn, which places are labeled, and how different regions are represented all carry cultural significance.

You must decide how to handle contested areas, such as regions with disputed borders, and whether to represent indigenous territories or cultural landmarks. For example, in a map of the world today, would you label Taiwan as part of China? Or would you choose to represent it separately, as it is governed independently? These choices can influence how people perceive those places and the political narratives associated with them.

4. Environmental Features:

While human-made borders are central to most maps, natural features—like mountains, rivers, and forests—are just as important. A good map should effectively highlight these features to give users a better understanding of the terrain and how humans interact with it. For instance, maps with detailed topography can show mountain ranges, valleys, and elevations, providing insight into how geography affects climate, human settlement, and resource distribution.

Additionally, ecological aspects like forest cover, deserts, and water bodies can influence the map’s relevance to certain disciplines, such as environmental science or natural resource management. In modern map-making, including these features alongside political boundaries helps create a more holistic picture of the world.

5. Technological Integration:

In today’s world, many maps are digital, allowing for interactivity and real-time updates. Whether you're building a physical map or an online tool, you should consider how the map will be used in different contexts—whether by educators, scientists, travelers, or policy-makers. A map can become a dynamic tool that not only presents static information but also allows users to zoom in, view alternate data layers, or even simulate geographic changes over time (like climate change impacts).

6. Ethical Responsibility:

Finally, there’s the question of ethics in map-making. Maps can influence public opinion, perpetuate stereotypes, and even shape geopolitical policies. Cartographers must be aware of the power their maps hold and strive to avoid bias. For example, historical maps often reflected colonial attitudes, distorting the true relationships between nations or peoples. Modern mapmakers have an ethical obligation to ensure that their maps are inclusive, neutral, and accurate.

In conclusion, as a cartographer, the most crucial thing is to balance both technical and ethical considerations. You must choose the right projection and scale to represent the world as accurately as possible, all while ensuring that your map reflects cultural, political, and environmental contexts in a way that serves the needs of the users. Maps aren’t just tools—they’re representations of the world that can shape how we see it, so accuracy and fairness should always be at the forefront of your work.

For example if one country was building an apartment and it turned out it passed the border between another country they could be fined. Many wars have started because of measurements and not knowing what the country’s length and width is. To conclude maps are important for jobs to prevent wars and to know someone’s identity . Thank you.

Faris 6b

As a cartographer on Earth, I would focus on creating accurate, informative, and aesthetically appealing maps. Here's what I would do:

Research and Fieldwork: I would begin by researching geographical data, studying terrain features, and conducting field surveys to gather precise information on natural and human-made features. This could involve measuring distances, elevations, and locations, often using modern GPS technology, drones, or satellite data.

Mapping Techniques: I would employ various mapping techniques, including topographic mapping, thematic mapping (such as population density or climate), and digital mapping using GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Cartography has become highly digital, so I would likely use software like ArcGIS or QGIS to process and visualize the data.

Creating Different Types of Maps: I would produce a variety of maps, including political maps, physical maps, road maps, and thematic maps, depending on the needs of the client or audience. Each map would serve a unique purpose, whether it's for navigation, understanding environmental trends, or analyzing demographic data.

Improving Accuracy and Detail: I would continually refine maps by integrating new data, making sure they remain up-to-date. This might involve working closely with satellite image providers, government agencies, and local authorities to keep track of any changes in geography, infrastructure, or the environment.

Designing for Clarity and Use: One of my priorities would be to make maps both functional and visually appealing. Clear symbols, appropriate color schemes, and legible text are essential to ensure the map is easily interpretable by its users. Whether it's a tourist map or a technical topographic map, I'd want to make sure it serves its intended purpose effectively.

Public Outreach and Education: As a cartographer, I would also be involved in educating the public on how to read and use maps. I might create educational resources or collaborate with schools and organizations to teach geography, spatial thinking, and map interpretation.

Innovation and Exploration: I'd stay on the cutting edge of cartography by experimenting with new ways to represent data. This might include interactive maps, 3D mapping, augmented reality for navigation, or integrating environmental and climate data into my maps to address global issues.

Rayan Alghanem

It depends on who made the map, but maps aren't always 100% correct. Maps are used to track places that the person is looking for, but it's not easy to know which way is the location. If the person does know where he is on the map, it is a luck. If you know where you are on a map, find something to write with, make a mark and a line to the location. Making marks and lines can help you know where to go and come back. If I was a cartographer, I would find a place to live first , then make on the map the small location where I am, and check around me and draw the same, and make a line and walk through the places and mark on the map. That is why technologies are made especially cellphones for calling, and to use maps. Online maps know where you are because the technology that you are using have internet to get signals from satellites in space. Now because maps are online, you can get tracked anywhere you are in the world. Your location shows a mark arrow of you called the navigator, it is used to know which one you are on the map and when you move around, the navigator spins. Now in some online applications, you can activate an navigation, it is a traction of the place you want to go to, it is like a line that shows you where to go. Also know you can zoom in maps and look a any place you want. And if you zoom out fully, you can see the earth 3d. Also sometimes you can look at earth models called globes, they show the name of cities, countries, and countinents, also they shoe lines of longitude and latitude to know the location number. The first known map was scratched on clay tablets in the ancient city of Babylon as long back as 600 BC, and the first world map was created by Greek academic Anaximander in the 6th century BC, who believed the earth was shaped like a cylinder and that humans habited the flat upper portion. So it is difficult to trust all maps, but most maps are true. Most important thing is how you use these maps and you Know where you are going.
