On 8 May 1886, Dr John S Pemberton nailed the formula, but it was his bookkeeper who came up with the name "Coca-Cola®". Frank M Robinson, suggested that “the two Cs would look well in advertising”.

And with that, Robinson also designed the now world famous Coca-Cola script logo.

He wanted his name for the new product to have an effective and dramatic style of its own. He experimented with an elaborate Spencerian script, a form of penmanship characteristic of that time. After consultation, the others working at Pemberton’s company adopted the script by unanimous consent.

Drawn in flowing handwriting, Robinson’s elaborate script was very “of the moment”, and it remains one of the most recognisable trademarks in the world.

The iconic Rolls-Royce emblem is composed of a vertically located rectangular with rounded angles, the wordmark, and the brand’s monogram.

The wordmark in capital letters is split into two parts, with the “Rolls” on the top and “Royce” on the bottom of it. The “RR” monogram is executed in a custom Art-Deco typeface with sleek sophisticated lines.

The rounded angles of the rectangular are balanced by the inner outline, which makes it even more smooth and elegant.

The color palette of the Rolls-Royce logo was the main issue of the brand’s redesigns throughout history.

They also decided to keep in the Samsung name the small part of the S and G open in order to show open-mindedness.

The customized bold type of the 1981 logo was replaced by the Univers Black Italic font five years later. Ten more years later, the letters were straightened. The Optima Pro Bold font introduced in the logo in 2003 has been used ever since.

The oldest known wordmark is of a cool blue shade. Since 1986, though, the Konami logo has featured warm tints. We can’t say that the brand has been that consistent in its palette.

The most important point of the Sprite logo is freshness. The color and shape represent the sparkle and lemon flavor of the iconic drink.

We should also discuss the logo of the lower-priced diffusion line McQ. While the range itself was launched in 2006, its current logo was introduced in 2015. From a shape point of view, the most unique font of the Canon logo is "C", with the top curved inward and a sharp element at the end. The tails of all letters are elongated and sharpened, representing movement and progress. The internal blank of the letter "O" is slightly inclined to the left, parallel to the vertical bar of "A", balancing it, and creating an artistic and cool Hyun mood. Red symbolises responsibility, hard work, purpose, energy, and determination.

To summarize, the Sony Vaio logo has three concealed messages; the analog wave, the binary code and logos transition from left to right highlighting the evolution of the technology and the company.

Gucci is a designer fashion label, that produces fashion items, mostly including high end leather goods and clothing.

But have you ever wondered why Gucci logo features double G in it?

In fact, there is no double-G, but rather double C, in the name.

Created with the French graphic design duo M/M, this makeover marks a key stage in Loewe’s transformation. The new logo is inspired by the work of German-born British typographer Berthold Wolpe, whose trajectory echoes that of  Enrique Loewe Roessberg, founder of the House. The creative, contemporary and refined élan evokes the past, present and future of Loewe.

The two dots can be seen slightly above the horizontal bar of the letter “A.”

The signature ”E” is used as a signifier or an icon, sometimes the Eminem name is placed on it’s vertical bar, but even without it the ”E” is instantly recognizable.

Designer use the letter “M” as a symbology represented through the waves along with fish, to strengthen the brand structure, facilitating the reading and understanding of all who observe it.

 

M is initial letter of the name, which has element of fence.

 The nameplate evokes a sense of seriousness and stability, while its diagonal placement adds a sense of friendliness and welcoming, balancing strictness and traditional lines.

Some experts believe that one of the reasons for imitating handwriting is to attract housewives of the time.  This script turned into handmade recipes, and the ladies often exchanged recipes at the time.  This added a homemade feel to the label. Appreciate this "home-made" fantasy for those who have neither a wife to prepare this kind of meal nor time to cook it themselves.

The new color, bright red, also makes the wordmark better visible and more eye-catching.

The wordmark, placed under the new emblem was also unique — the “Central” part was turned upside down.

So despite the simplicity of the colors and lines, it was a truly remarkable visual identity design, following all the trends in contemporary design.

Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the old Mitsubishi organization, chose the three-diamond mark as the emblem for his company. The mark is suggestive of the three-leaf crest of the Tosa Clan, Yataro's first employer, and also of the three stacked rhombuses of the Iwasaki family crest.

35 years after / forward is a fictive exhibition organized by the Graphic Design department of the Faculty of Graphic Arts & Design, Technological Institute (TEI) of Athens. The department operates since 35 years, and this exhibition aims to promote the creative fields which the study plan offers to the students, along with selected graduation projects (theses) from the students.
